Or, if you don't mind paying, the wheel repair shops refinish the wheels too, for about $100-150 a wheel.

Question - Should I just keep using more & more polish?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I just cleaned my Fikse FM10 wheels after a few days of driving in snow, ice, etc. Now, around the lip, they have some kind of stain or oxidation that won't come off. I tried a very mild polish but no help. Normally I use simple green & I'm afraid to use anything stronger.....any suggestions??
I included before & after pics. Thanks for any advice.
* I originally posted this on the "wheel & tire" forum but after looking at the lack of traffic I'm hoping to get a little more love over here.
I always have anything with polished alloy rims off before the snow & salt hit....and have the winter rims on.....but have seen what you are showing.
Pretty sure that what is needed here is more polish and more elbow grease.....hopefully that will get it.......the upside of unfinished, polished alloys is that the sheen is there......it may just be below the surface
Just food for thought.........ways to lower maintenance on polished alloys......1.)never let em get too far gone (weekly attention).......2.) Zoopseal....time & effort but it provides more protection than wax ......3.) or have em clearcoated.
Good luck.
The stain can be polished out but get ready for a work out. Next time make sure you wax the lip after a wash so they won't get stained again. I used to add atleast two or three layers of wax on the lip of my fm10's to avoid the stain, it also make your next wash fairly easy.
Are they clear coated?
If so, you will need to strip the clear coat off, or it just won't get better. The stock Viper wheels had that problem (ask me how I know). You can clear coat them again, or just leave them bare.
If they are already bare metal, employ power tools my friend! And buy some proper wheel metal polish. One of those Mother's polish ***** with the right polishing compound would probably do it.
Or, if you don't mind paying, the wheel repair shops refinish the wheels too, for about $100-150 a wheel.
No clear coat.......I'm charging the power tools right now and will spend the next couple hours in the garage. I clean them every couple days so I was surprised how quickly this happened.
Thanks for the advice!
The Fikse web site reccommends a 50/50 mix of water & simple green for general cleaning. I've used it on various wheels for a long time but never let it sit for more then 15 seconds before washing it off.
Last night I went through two rechargable batteries on my power drill and only removed about 25% of the offending stains. You guys weren't joking - it is a serious work out. I have a polishing ball but it is too big to get down into the inner part of the lip - I need to find a smaller polishing attachment.
Question - Should I just keep using more & more polish? I've done two coats on each wheel so far and figure it will take at least two or three more. The second coat was much thicker and seemed to work better. Can they be damaged by over polishing? Anyone have any "polishing tips?"
Thanks again
