Clutch and tranny have been replaced, seems like a great car - on paper anyway - except for the miles.

I replaced every damned part on that thing - now it flys like new!

Suggestion
It's now at 73k miles and running very nicely, but I seriously doubt I'd get $39,999 for it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This well optioned 2002 C2 is priced pretty low, due to the 60k mile service interval, I assume? Clutch and tranny have been replaced, seems like a great car - on paper anyway - except for the miles.
Assuming the price drops to $36k...is this a great deal, or just so-so? Should the miles scare me off?
Thoughts, and thanks!

Certainly looks like a great deal. The miles are fine ... I would not be worried about buying a 60K miles 996. What's with the "911 Turbo" front plate?
Is it a Porsche CPO car (doesn't look like a Porsche dealer to me)? In any case, get a PPI.
A few things don't make sense. The CPO warranty, the wheels and size, the 911 turbo plate on front????. I would definitely check it out in person and have a PPI done. Something about it does not seem right. If it were a good car, then 36K is a fair price.
That's 12K miles a year - doesn't seem outrageous to me. Price seems fair.
A CPO (from Porsche) only comes from a (Porsche) dealer or can be transferred from a private seller. It
cannot
be sold/transferred by a non-Porsche dealer.
Must have been talking about my 944!
The ad is kinda misleading, since they are calling it "pre owned certified", I thnk CPO. But it's "certified" by them, not Porsche. Which means nothing. As for the Turbo license plate, just poor P/O taste I guess.
I would much rather find the same car with 22k miles on it, but that would probably wind up costing $6k more.
very true. no cpo. new clutch/transmission at 12k miles/year, 60k total suggests hard driving, no? kinda weird. did you get carfax report? also, did turbo twists come on 02s, i.e. original wheels? generally, i wouldn't buy from a place like that. plenty of places like that in queens selling high end cars but look downright shady.
I would rather buy a 2002 C2 with 70K miles than 10K miles (both being within budget). It's a good idea to stay away from very low mileage cars, they just don;t have much of a "track record". For a 996, I still say 60K is good mileage. Don't worry about it.
I'd say, not at all. I've seen (on this forum) clutches being replaced anywhere between 30K and 90K miles. Sometimes, they just do the clutch when doing the RMS / transmission.
I know this dealer - about a year ago I almost bought a 1991 BMW 850 from them w/ 32K. They are "shady" and gave me the creeps. That said, it does not necessarily mean the car has any problems. Just, caveat emptor. Do your homework and have the car checked out. They have had other 'seemingly' nice cars before and do seem to move merchandise.
Have a PPI done at a dealer. I highly doubt they put in a new clutch and a new transmission on thier dime. If its a new clutch the pedal should feel nice and light and smooth. A new transmission, when viewed from underneath wont have any cosmoline on it. I like this car, its similar to what I would buy but I would get a third party (preferably a dealer) to give it a PPI.
I visited this dealer last summer when they advertised a beautiful blue 99 C2 Cab. They told me the car had been sold the week before. Okay, back to searching. Several weeks later, a search result from cars.com pulls up the same car at this place? I'm sure there could be logical reasons for this to happen, but something gave me a bad gut feeling. Be careful. PPI is a must!

For this kind of purchase (high-end Sports car), I wont be buying from "Sluggo's Cars", or the equivilent! Two people got a bad feeling about this place, so NEXT!
I wouldn't let that bother you Tom. I imagine that many dealers won't bother to cancel an ad for a car sold - it may still generate calls, and that's what they want.
However, that said, if the place/seller gives you a bad vibe, for whatever reason, then prudence dictates that you walk.

The mileage isn't high, but the price is. I got my '02 with a CPO and 50k miles for $43,975 last May. It's now at 73k miles and running very nicely, but I seriously doubt I'd get $39,999 for it.
Records, records, records, records..........like an airplane, I would not buy a 996 without records......I have every record since my car came to the states.............I would not have it any other way........I never knew the first owner of my car, but I know exactly what was performed in terms of maintenance and repairs.......
I really think buying a Porsche is not too dissimiliar from buying a plane if done right.....

I agree...records are key! So are the original manuals and papers - shows the owner cared about the details.
My 944 is plane-like. I replaced every damned part on that thing - now it flys like new!
