Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

silly me, the wires send a response to the driver when it whistles at a deer, otherwise you'd just think the deer saw you and ran away...geez

It you use the cupholder - it transmits a signal to the Porsche Dealer Network along with your customer information.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I washed the car today and (I'm embarrassed to say) finally took a good swipe in and around the front spoiler / bumper. The sponge caught on something, I took a good look, and it appears to be some sort of sensor hiding on the RHS, in the bottom opening.
Can anyone identify it? Is it a radar detector? A temperature gauge? An airflow meter? I'm stumped!
Thanks!
-jerry
Silly, silly. silly,
It's a car wash meter which allows Porsche to determine the frequency and duration of car washes. Then, they can determine the temperature and cleanliness of the air passing over the car, to determine if improper maintenance should have any effect on your warranty.
I'm sure you've fiqured out by now that I haven't a clue what it's for...hey, I might be right!
Trivia. US Boxsters built prior to January 1997 did not have the sensor unless the car had the 659 option. I put one in on a 12/96 Boxster so the owner could have the outside temp display. In the UK you do not get the sensor unless you have a/c or 659. A/C is an option there. Jeff
Option # NCC-1701... Transmitter for the deflector shield, got to keep the bugs and rock chips off that fresh paint.
Either that or it is the temp. sensor.
I'd say that's a new installed equipment porsche got from James Bond Movie...:P that's a small mini proto type missle that'll blow up the front car if he detects u're trying to rear end someone...so it can protect the paint and the car from hitting ...^___^
Just talked to a sales rep. He said it could be a modified laser tracking device which tracks M3 in the vicinity so you could blow them up.
Or could it be a self towing device where you can fired a hook to another car and set it into neutral?
Wow.... I should enter these replies in a FAQADRWK (Frequently Asked Questions and Answers you Didn't Really Want to Know).... Along with mine...

Of course, Loren's post makes perfect sense - but frankly - it's sort of a boring answer. Correct but still boring (sorry Loren - just kidding!!!
)
Yep it's the identical one on the bimmer. My wife discovered it when she ripped the front bumper off when she hooked a corner on a wheel barrier at the mall. Aside from ripping off that cheap azz front bumper they put on BMW's all of the electronics in the bumper disconnected and until we hooked it back up- for months she could not figure why the outside temp gauge was reading -40 degrees on 90 degress days.
No more Bimmers for this household
coming from arkansas, i seriously thought it was a deer whistle, but then the wires through me...then i realized. silly me, the wires send a response to the driver when it whistles at a deer, otherwise you'd just think the deer saw you and ran away...geez
