Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Friend of mine just took delivery of his new C4S (oh! the sheer jealousy). Anyway, He had the big reds factory fitted. When he received the car he was handed 4 boxes containing the original fit silver calipers. Sooooo.. they are now up for grabs. Any reasonable offers considered. Leave me a private message and I will get back to you.

POST 2Original post

The C4S comes standard with red turbo brakes, where are the silver ones from? And Porsche never made a "C2S" let alone a "C2S Cab" ????

POST 3Original post

Ed is right. Your friend is pulling your leg. The red brakes are standard on the C4S. No way/Jose should he have any "extra" silver brakes. He may have a C4, put aftermarket brakes by the dealer, and now has the old brakes. Either that or he is plain joshing.

POST 4Original post

Silver brakes calipers were standard on the 996C4 up to the C4S when they became red.

POST 5Original post

In the UK the 2002 C2 as far as insurance companies and registration are concerned is listed as a C2S, because it has a different power rating than the pre 02 C2.

POST 6Original post

Ahhhh. Does that also explain why a post-01 C4 would be considered a C4S? What then is the "real" C4S? A C4S-S?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Late reply just got back from Watford........ Ed is absolutely correct. My mistake. It is a C4 not a C4S. Sorry for the confusion. However, my car is a 2000 996 Cab C2 S. At leats I hope it is cos that's what I bought. Paperwork says it clearly too. Also option code 471 means the S model I think. Maybe I am wrong on this I duno. Maybe its a millenium edition or some other special or it's another one of those US/Euro differences. But Ed, it is a 996 C2S. Anyway, these calipers are boxed and for all intents and purposes brand spanker. They have however been fitted to the car but were obviously taken off by the dealer. Although as far as I understood it he was to have them factory fitted. A bit confusing that. I considered getting them for my car but have decided its not worth it as I am considering changing next year.

POST 8Original post

Porsche did not make any wide bodied cabs. There first will be on October! Also, no C2S.

POST 10Original post

SCOUSER....Didnt you say a local breaker had some silver callipers in a previous posting...are these actually those? Also I have never heard of a C2 S. Do you mean that your car is a C2 fitted with a sport pack?

POST 11Original post

It's just a way for insurance companies in europe to tell the difference between pre 2002 and post 2002 996 because they have different engine sizes which is a large factor in what insurance you pay. Hence C2 S in the UK for post 02 cars...This is not a Porsche spec, all the insurance companies just agreed to register post 02 cars as C2S.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tis true, tis true. You guys are so picky! What do ya want from me? I am only trying to sell some brake calipers for freakin sake The ones you are talking about K8 MAL are "NOT" the same calipers. Here's ther gaf: I saw Pat's car (doublenutz) in a pic he posted and thought them there callipers look great. I want some. I did some enquiries and found some at a local scrapper. Then I find out my friend has an unused set that he wants to get rid of. So I bought them off him. However,I just found out my RMS is hosed and even if it is done under warranty (which I have reservations about) I will have a new clutch (and possibly pressure plate) fitted at the same time its done. Either way it's going to cost me a lot of dosh which I haven't got. So I have decided to put them up for sale. The calipers are cosmetic (to me as I don't track the car) and I don't really need them. If the RMS wasn't an issue then I would not be selling them. Now onto the C2S. Well as you can imagine I got real pissed off and worried about you guys comments. As far as I was concerened that's what I bought 3 years back.As I said I have the paperwork too. Anyway, I asked my dealer (not where I bout the car BTW) to check it out. The dealer had no quibble with the details of the car. it is a UK spec C2S. He said however, that it is confusing. In the UK, many 996 C2's were specked up to S standard and were sold as C2S and it is not uncommon to find them. It means it has been factory Sport upgrades and brings it up to similar specks expected in the pre 98 911 C2S except the wide body. But even then he has heard of some wide body upgraded C2Ss too although it is done aftermarket . I explained to the guy at the dealer that you guys in the US had never heard of a 996 C2S and he said he was not surprised. He said many of the upgrade mods were not allowed/accepted in the US. He said even the standard 996 is different in spec to the standard 996 in the US be it C2 or C4. As far as I am concerened it is a C2S. As far as my dealer is concerned it is a C2S. enough said.

Scouser, don't let it get ya down man. I have learned in my years here to simply strap on some leather skin (and since I am a Marine my "leather band collar") and blow some of the comments on here off. There are a few people here that think they will always know MORE about your car and circumstances than you do and there is no proving to them ever that they have no clue what the hell they are talkng (writing) about! I simply ignore them and take the good stuff from this forum, as there are many more that I do appreciate who post useable information or are learnig from other content that is posted here. As we say here in the US "don't sweat it" my friend.
