Late this past Fall, before my final DE event, I installed Pagid Orange on all corners.

The HPS pads have a thick abrasive coating sprayed on the surface of the pads that when used with proper pad bedding procedures after installation will clean off the glazing.

Likely the rotors themselves were already shot (they can lose only 2 mm thickness before needing to be replaced).

I'm running the Hawks recommended in the above post.

I use Zimmermans exclusively for replacement rotors and have never had a set warp, even in severe duty applications.

I have used Pagid black, yellow, orange, and Hawk HPS for both street and track.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
I am in desperate need on a decision on new brake pads for my new set of rotors. I am currently using EBC Redstuff on stock rotors and i think they are the cause of my rotors being warped or for whatever reason my brakes are pulsating ...
I was actually considering COOL CARBON Brake pads or Brembo Sport Pads. But for the price, I'd prefer to just get the pagids.
Anyone have suggestions on which is the best to use on stock rotors? RS4-4 or RS-14?
Cheers
Look at Orient Express' post on the topic: FOUND: Genuine Dustless brake pads for the 996
I'm running the Hawks recommended in the above post. Much less dust (and that which is produced is much less noticeable) and about the same braking performance from what I can tell.
I doubt the EBC Reds caused any problems per se with your old rotors, as I've read plenty of good reviews about them. Likely the rotors themselves were already shot (they can lose only 2 mm thickness before needing to be replaced).
I would personally stay away from EBC yellows or any other race pad for on-road applications. Versus any decent street pad, race pad braking performace will likely be poorer--and they'll likely squeal like a stuck pig--anywhere except at the track.
Good luck
I know I'm not adding much but the stockers are great for the street and even did good for my first hpde. The good thing about the oem pads is you know they'll go easy on the rotors.
I wash regularly so the dust doesn't bother me.
100 Plus:
Late this past Fall, before my final DE event, I installed Pagid Orange on all corners. They work just foine, except that you will certainly hear a bit of brake squeal every time you apply the brakes until the pads/rotors warm up. In your climate they might be just fine, with no noise. Understand that the use of a more aggressive pad will shortlen the life of your rotors. Also, from what I can tell, you will still get plenty of brake dust....just means you need to clean the wheels more often.
You will ge less braking performance with the pagid orange on the street. The optimum temperature range for aggressive pads is higher so cold stopping power decreases.
The orange pads when cold squeal quite a bit and the black race only pads not only are louder but will chew on your rotors even more so than the orange pad. Also the yellow endurance pad is better than the orange for track performance.
Stick with stock.
Thanks guys for your input.
Main application for the pads are Street & Highway use only. No track.
I am not worried about the pads eating away my rotors but more worried about Rotor warp or juddering of the brakes.
I was thinking of getting the RS-14 Blacks as it is ceramic compound and gives off less dust and also has higher frictional level through out as compared to the orange which inturn means stronger braking.
The RS-14 Is only 10 dollars more expensive.
What do you guys suggest? I will definitely not go back to stock pads.
Cheers
DO NOT use the RS14 for the highway/street. It is a race only compound. Your braking will be horrible. The pads/rotors will never get up to temp. I really don't understand why people think that stock pads are so bad (minus the dust).
Not only will the RS14 will eat your rotors for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you will quite possibly, wind up crashing because the braking is simply not there.
I use pagid yellow for street and track... they are great and last long time and you won't have the heating up issue like you do with the orange...
I have also used porsche "sport" pads and they are also better than the stock pads... and not expensive... go to suncoast.com - I would recommend these
I don't know what to say about dust... all pads make dust...
Your best bet are the Hawk HPS pads instead of ceramic. No dust, excellent stopping power and fade, no noise when cold, etc. They are more expensive then EBC pads, but cheaper then OEM pads, and you can buy them on Amazon.
Ceramic pads are going to get almost as much dust as stock pads, and for street use, I cannot recommend them.
Now to address your shudder at initial brake application. This is most likely due to to glazing on the brake rotor surface. The HPS pads have a thick abrasive coating sprayed on the surface of the pads that when used with proper pad bedding procedures after installation will clean off the glazing.
But then again you might actually have warped rotors. Highly unlikely if you have the stock Brembo rotors on your car, but still possible. If you are looking for a replacement rotor of the same quality as the OEM Brembos, but don't want to pay a Brembo price, consider Zimmerman rotors. I use Zimmermans exclusively for replacement rotors and have never had a set warp, even in severe duty applications.
I would not use the Pagid Orange, Black or Yellow as dedicated street pads. Like others have said, they need some heat in them to work properly, and will make some noise on the street as well.
Hawk HPS pads are alright, I use them in our Cayenne TT but they still make a bit of dust, but nothing like OE pads do.
Cheers
The RS4-4's will work fine for you on the Street... These pads will work well for you with a stock weight 996... While the others are correct on the RS14/19 & 29's...
I have used Pagid black, yellow, orange, and Hawk HPS for both street and track. They all dust about the same to me (Hawk maybe a tiny bit less). Street stopping power and feel was the worst with HPS, followed closely by Blacks.
With blacks and yellows properly bedded, on the street they feel fine (compared to stock), until the transfer layer wears off and begin to squeal. There after, I'd have rebed them with a few hard stops which would make them quiet again for a little while longer. That got old, so I just swap out pads now.
Orange is my preferred set up for dual duty. Yellow/Black for dedicated track. Cost no object, I'd just keep using orange and not hassle with swapping pads and bedding each time.
Caution: all the above pads have diminished rain feel. Stock is superior in that regard.
Stick with stock or try the Hawk HPS pads. Leave track pads for the track. You're asking for worse braking on the street, more noise, more rotor wear, and similar or more dust.
100plus:
I did not want to say anything abut your decision, but I am perplexed at it.
You have been almost universally counseled not to go with Pagid pads for street use because they exhibit all of the characteristics you are trying to avoid, but yet you chose those pads anyway. They are absolutely the worst pads you could choose for your application.
Would you please enlighten us to why you choose to use these pads?
He'll be back to stock. Don't you worry. Those Pagid RS44 will get annoying as hell when your car sounds like a school bus (although not as bad as the black race pad. I have yet to hear a quiet Orange pad car. Noise typically comes from rear.
ha...i was wondering the same thing! he never enlightened you, nor did he report back with his review. i think this was a case of knowing what he wanted and was hoping someone would agree with him...but since no one gave him the answer he want to hear, he did it anyway.
however, no one mentioned the Pagid S or "sport" pads. they appear to be the solution to street/track. anybody have experience with these?
