Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
Probably a waste of time on a street car, the wt savings is minimal.
Leading evidence: 'waste of time' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'waste of time' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend company' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Great place to save weight in rear is replacing cat with bypass pipes.

Suggestion
You will lose 50lbs by removing the mufflers, however you still have to use the cats.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How exactly do I remove the rear seats, rear belts, etc... basically everything that can be taken out of the rear?
To remove the rear seats, do I have to go under the carpet and take off those metal panels?
I can only talk how they are don in 993 but assuming they are similar (in principle), seat backs will bolt out (from sides & center tunnel), same thing with seat belts, they are bolted.
Also, rear deck is screwed in with small screws.
Do take all the sound deadening out also, it's a pain but worth doing it (about 30 lbs).
Great place to save weight in rear is replacing cat with bypass pipes. Saves a lot of weight and from all the way from the rear.
Then there's lexan to replace glass...
^ can you recommend a company that makes lexan windows?
also, i've noticed on other threads that people drilled out the seatbelt mounts for substancial weight loss, is this a straightforward task or something better left to someone who's done more drilling/sanding work
You may want to rethink that. The glass doesn't weigh that much, plus it is considered a structural component of the chassis. It will surely leak as well. However, you can get an entire 8x12' sheet for 120$ from any polyu supplier, then just cut it to fit with jig saw based on templates from your windows, it's very easy. Probably a waste of time on a street car, the wt savings is minimal.
Dead,
I removed the rear seats and it is all done with allen wrenches. Remove the center piece holding
the two rear backs, when thats done slide each seat out of the side holders.
Actually that's not Rico's car, I believe that it's 996TT that caught fire...
By the way another great way to lose weight in the back of the car is go after some of that sound deadening stuff and remove rear speakers...just a thought.
^ thats a good point... i don't sit back there anyhow so no need for speakers.
so the removal list is now:
*Seats/Bolts
*Seatbelts
*Seatbelt Mounting Points
*Random metal plates
*Speakers
*Sound Deadening Material
*Sportcats/Bypasses
(maybe: plastic window from a GT3RS depending on cost)
Surprised nobody has mentioned swapping the exhaust as the OEM mufflers are pretty heavy. Try doing some research to see what the weight difference is between the OEM and a set of Fabspeeds.
Fabspeed bypasses are the way to go. You will lose 50lbs by removing the mufflers, however you still have to use the cats. Also, you have to get accustomed to the sound, either you love it or hate it.
And so will your neighbors!
