Nice wheels..Good luck with the sale. Free bump. C.

POST 3Original post

I've got to admit that I'm tempted... gotta work out if these are the same size as the wheels I currently have on the car and if I could transfer the tires.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 4737848

WAyne - what size wheels & tires do you have now? I have always liked the Sport Designs. Those would look sweet on your car.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 4737928

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. I have 18" wheels (don't know the rest of the details until I inspect closer). I have 225/35 on the front and 265/40 on the rear.

POST 6Original post

I really like those rims, good luck with the sale. I am already way over my mod budget this year

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 4737974

Don't you have the Bridgestone RE750's? I think you reversed the aspect ratios on your tires. I checked the Tire Rack site for the RE750's and there is a 225/40/18 and 265/35/18. The 225/40 will fit a wheel width of 7.5" to 9.0" and the 265/35 will fit a wheel width of 9.0" to 10.5". So your current tires will fit the Sport Design wheels. Do it! DO IT!

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 4738058

You're correct, I do have RE 750s on my current wheels and I did reverse the aspect ratios. Thanks for the guidance Tim. It's good to know that my tires fit the wheels. I'll hopefully get some time to check my wheels tonight to see that I have.

POST 9Original post

These would just be a standard fit withpout spacers?

POST 10Original post

They'll fit without spacers. I have them on my '99 C4. I think they would look sharp on your white car!

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 4738717

Yes, they will fit without spacers as Van said. Let me know the width and offset of your current wheels and I will tell you how the Sport Designs will fit (extend - retract - or the same) compared to your current wheels. If your current wheels are OEM the width & offset should be stamped on either side of the valve stem.

POST 12Original post

Thanks Tim. I'll check tomorrow and let you know.

Uhmmm.... and what does that have to di with YOUR current wheel sizes that you were going to get for me?

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 4741903

I told you previously that I haven't got them yet - I'll get them tomorrow when I have enough light to read the wheels. Sorry to be so slow, but I got home after dark. I was hoping to get them this evening, but I didn't get home in time, then had to jump right into getting dinner ready and the kid to bed. I promise I'll have the info tomorrow morning.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All, Thanks for all of the interest. I wanted to add my 2 pence. These wheels should fit perfectly on the car as they were a Porsche factory/dealer option. No spacers are needed and the offset works great. Also, I would recommend keeping the front tires already on the wheels and buying a matching set of Azenis RT-615s for the rear in 265/35/18 (which Falken makes). I have these tires (but in different sizes) on my car now and they are amazing. They grip like there is no tomorrow, do not squeal, and have great turn in. In short, they blow the RE-750s out of the water in terms of performance. The S-O3s would be closer but still lacking in dry performance. The 615s might not last as long as the RE 750s, although mine are wearing very well so far. I think I have 12-15k mi. on them and they look like they still have half of the tread. The RE-750s would probably be better in the wet. Sincerely, j

POST 31Original post

Yup, I think the wheels will round out the look of the car. Thanks to Tim for doing the Photoshop - it's nice to see how the car will look.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 4745604

Well, now you know why Chuck thinks I'm a ********! OK, to make it up to you I P-shopped a Taco Wing in your the pic with the Sport Design wheels. Because I had to "fabricate" the wing, it's not perfect, but it's close.

POST 33Original post

Not bad. I guess I'll forgive you for being mean to me this one time. Looks good. I'm guessing I'll end up installing the taco at some point. Now Jason and I have just to figure out the logistics of getting the wheels to me. Trying to figure out shipping costs via the UPS website was a waste of time. Has anyone done this before? any ideas of how much it will cost to ship UPS ground across country?

POST 34Original post

When I shipped 4 stock 17" wheels with tyres from California to Washington, the weight total was 179 lbs and the cost was $108.23. Each wheel/tyre were shipped separately and I used 2 pieces of round cardboard on each side of each wheel, secured with shipping tape, to protect the wheels. So estimate 50lbs per wheel/tyre (I know sounds like a lot) and measure the wheels if the UPS website needs that information. GL and congrat's

POST 35Original post

Thanks Steven - that's about what I was expecting. I figure that 200lbs is about right. Jason will be getting UPS to do the packing, so hopefully they'll do it as you suggested (it's how I'd do it). To be honest they're not incredibly smart, so I'm hoping that Jason stops them from doing something dumb when they do the packing. As you said, carboard on each side of the wheel is the best way to do it. Shipping them with the tires on will at least protect the edges of the rims and carboard across the sides should protect the surfaces of the wheel.

POST 36Original post

I had a set of 19's shipped from SoCal up here and it was around $150. All I had the PO do was tape heaver cardboard rounds on the top and bottoms of the wheels, ad a shipping label to each and viola, the arrived in less than 1 weeks in great shape. However the UPS guy has not deliverd anything else to me sinse... stuff keeps getting 'lost'.

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 4746036

Yeah, sadly UPS doesn't provide the most reliable service. I'd be happier trusting the taping of the cardboard onto the wheels to Jason.

POST 38Original post

Quotes source post: 4746036

This is how Tire Rack ships wheels with tires on them but they band two together with the face of the wheel facing in. Works fine. You may want to price FedEx ground as they usually beat UPS? Using their website for an estimate is easy.

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 4747588

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked fedex - looked to be about the same. it also appeared that they would not do the packing in the way that UPS will (I didn't see a packing option).

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 4737438

Just to close the loop on these wheels with a quick review - they have now been installed on my car - photos below. The wheels were in good condition overall. Sadly the wheels arrived with the emblems from both rear wheels detached and loose in the box - This was easily fixed. The wheels had been well packaged by UPS. The "minor" curb rash and cosmetic flaws were worse in reality than reflected in the photos (as can be the case in photographs taken at night with a flash) in addition to some minor scratches on each of the faces that probably will be able to be buffed out. My tire installer indicated that the curb rash had probably been ground smooth with a grinding wheel. There were some defects in the finish that were not visible in the photos, nor disclosed by the seller. The wheels were described as being "two years old, maybe a little more" - The wear and tear and the pattern of balancing weights on the inside suggested they had previously had two sets of tires mounted on them, so the age was probably at 4-6 years old, depending upon milage. The wear and tear on the wheels was consistent with 4+ years of wear. The tire wear was not as represented. The rear tires were worn beyond their wear bars and the front tires were worn beyond 4/32" tread, so probably had less then 40% tread remaining, rather than the 90% claimed. All four tires were discarded upon receipt. Overall, the wheels are looking good on the car and I am happy with them, but there were some inaccuracies in the advertised details and the seller should have been more accurate in disclosing the condition of the wheels and the tires. The advertisement portrayed wheels in excellent condition and front tires in nearly new condition - this was inaccurate and what was received were wheels in good condition and tires and poor/unusable condition, factors that materially affect the value of the goods purchased.

POST 41Original post

Wayne, I am so sorry to hear what happened. But I was a little concerned that $1,000 was too good of a price to pay for these wheels as advertised, but you never know, sometimes there are great deals out there to be had. So you took the risk without seeing the wheels in person and unfortunately they were not exactly the way they were described in the add. But you have them now and with new rubber on them, you just need to give the wheels some tender loving care and knowone will ever know what condition they looked like before.

POST 42Original post

Quotes source post: 4804844

Yup, I have no complaints over the wheels or the price, other than the principle of things being represented accurately. An honest assessment would say that I probably paid around what they were worth - maybe a little more. I had planned on using the tires that came with the wheels for autocross and that proved not to be viable, as the rear tires had no tread. A second alternative was to sell the front tires - that also proved not to be an alternative, as I would not like to sell tires that are below my standards/ have so little tread as to be worthless to a fellow Rennlister. It could have been a lot worse - I regard this as more of a near-miss not to be repeated. There were significant hassles behind the scenes that really did not make this a fun transaction, but in the end I have to admit that I do have some goood looking wheels that are not in bad condition.

POST 43Original post

It sucks that you can't trust someone's (inaccurate) representation, but they still look great on your car.

POST 44Original post

Quotes source post: 4805466

Yeah, I know. Rennlisters are supposed to be trustworthy. I just discovered this evening that him charging me for his PayPal/credit card transaction fees is not only against the PayPal user agreement, but also against the law in California. A note to PayPal could get his account suspended. I'll have to sleep on whether I follow-up on his violation. It might teach him a lesson for being such a jackass during the transaction.

POST 45Original post

FYI Any retailer charging you an extra fee for a credit card transaction or saying there is a minimum credit card charge amount falls under the same rules from the issuing card company too.

POST 46Original post

Quotes source post: 4806186

Ahh, so he could also get into trouble from a bunch of different directions by pulling tricks like that. Edit: I've submitted a request for a refund of the credit card transaction surcharge.

POST 47Original post

Where is the seller? Is he gone now after selling the wheels?

POST 48Original post

He has only 5 posts on the 996 Froum and all 5 were about selling these wheels. The 1st post was back in April of 2007.

POST 49Original post

So I'd say he's a real 'giver' on this forum, not a taker. Too bad his values aren't like most Rennlisters regarding ease of sale and accurate product info.

POST 50Original post

He has not posted recently, but has been reading the forums (as indicated by his public profile). He is probably getting email notifications of posts in this thread, so will be seeing the conversation, even if he is not coming into the thread to read it. I'm guessing that he doesn't care about the damage that his attitude has caused to his Rennlist reputation. We'll see if he makes things right and refunds the credit card charges. If I do not hear from him, then I'm guessing I'll escalate this to PayPal.

POST 51 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All, Wow, heavy words are so lightly thrown (to paraphrase Morrissey). So there are six Rennlist threads bashing me without so much as a rebuttal on my part. Nice mob mentality. Wayne Devonport aka Wellardmac has given you his side of the story and I feel that it is appropriate to give you mine. I saw the threads a couple of days ago, but was too busy to respond as I have worked 65 hrs. in the past 5 days in the emergency department. Wayne, you should have contacted me first before insulting me publicly to express your displeasure. You should have contacted me immediately and maybe we could have worked something out. I could have refunded your money and sent the wheels to someone else on the list. Instead, I actually emailed you to see if you had installed the wheels and to find out how you liked them on your car! Boy, was I naive. So, here is the transaction from my standpoint: I wanted to sell the wheels locally so as to avoid having any type of misunderstanding about the wheels and I also did not know how to ship them across the country. This much was stated in my ad. If I were trying to deceive someone, I would not have stated, Local sale preferred, but I can ship if you really want em. I had a line of people who wanted to buy the wheels and I went through the requests in the order received so as to be fair to everyone involvedeven though several potential buyers were local! I then used half of one of my few days off to go to load the tires and go to the UPS Store for shipment. During this time, I discussed with Wellardmac the cost of shipping, packaging, and insurance. He stated that he needed to open a new bank account to link with PayPal b/c he was a self-described security freak [not my words], and wanted a discrete bank account attached to it. He offered to pay by credit card and I explained that I felt the wheels were a good price and therefore did not want to pay the extra credit card fees. He stated that he would pay via an account transfer instead. I agreed and the wheels were packaged for shipment. I had to make another trip to the UPS Store to sign my credit card charge and was informed that after I had left, Wellardmac had called the store to make sure that the wheels were actually there even though he had heard me discussing the packaging information which I then relayed directly to him. At this point, I no longer had the wheels ($1000) and had paid the associated shipment costs ($267). So, in good faith, I was out almost $1,300 with only a promise of payment from the purchaser! I was under the impression that I would be paid immediately, but instead did not receive payment until the next day. I still was not worried, however. It turns out the buyer also paid with an E-check instead of an account transfer. This E-check would take over 5 business days to clear, incur a nominal fee, and it was for the wrong amount (only a trivial difference, though). The day before the wheels were to arrive at Wellardmacs house, I noticed that the PayPal check clearance date had now been postponed almost 15 days (until 29.Nov.)! I tried to contact Wayne to find out what had happened, and began to get nervous about the transaction. I called UPS and had them hold the wheels at the shipment hub until we could straighten everything out. It turns out that there was a PayPal error which was compounded by a B of A error. Wayne spent a lot of time talking to these vendors via telephone and conferencing me in. I suggested wiring the money to my account as a resolution for all of this (and having B of A absorb the fee in light of their error). The transaction was getting very unwieldy at this point, and I just wanted to resolve it. I also wanted to receive payment for the goods prior to their delivery (now 6 days from when I shipped them). I told Mr. Devonport that I would not release the wheels until I was paid. He was upset by this, and felt that I was needlessly prolonging the transaction. Obviously we have different points of view on this, but I would never expect someone to give me goods before he received payment for them. So, Wayne ultimately paid for everything with his credit card. I noticed that he had sent too much money and refunded him the difference immediately. Now, as far as the wheels not being as described: I answered every email promptly and accurately. I sent Mr. Devonport ten high resolution photos of the wheels (I am no photographer but I did the best I could). I never stated that the wheels were two years old. Rather, I said that they had been on my car just over a year and in storage just under a year. I thought that the wear descriptions were accurate and had already explained to Wayne that he should replace the rear tires. The fronts were not on the car very long, and I am not sure what the quarter test proves since these tire are borderline DOT-R tires and likely do not have as deep a tread as other tires. He also told me he was going to replace all of the tires since he had recently purchased a new set. I did not send photos of each tire for this reason. Whatever, I did not willfully misrepresent the tires. Finally, all of the centercaps were on the wheels and intact when I dropped them off at the UPS store. I do not know what happened en route. Mr. Devonport got $3,300 wheels for $1000. Even if he refinished each one (which is not even necessary) he would still have gotten out for less than half price. He had all of the photos to examine prior to his purchase also. I had wanted to sell the wheels locally and I really wish that I had. I think my actions detailed above show that I was not trying to defraud another Rennlister. So, to summarize the names I have been called by Wellardmac in these threads: suspect character, irrational, unreasonable, paranoid, penny-pinching, jackass, and untrustworthy. He also stated something to effect of: What do you expect from a guy who drives a 944. He impugned my character and integrity by insinuating that I am dishonest and have broken the trust of the Rennlist community. All of this was done before even contacting me to discuss things first. Furthermore, other sheeple in these threads have called me a weasel and said that I should be blacklisted from Rennlist. This is all very mature and speaks volumes about those involved. I have said my piece, thanks for reading. Sincerely, Jason Coker P.S. I had no idea about passing on the credit card fees as I am not a vendor. Wayne, your fees were refunded this morning.

Thank you for ther refund. If there is anything in my comments that does not reflect reality, then please PM me and I will correct the comments. Otherwise, we have both stated our positions, you refunded the credit card fees. I regard the transaction as closed.

WOW! And I thought my online buying and selling experiences had gotten complicated....Whew! Good job Jason refunding the charges too My therory selling stuff is to state EVERYTHING that anyone could EVER possibly bitch about in writing. Might not work everytime but it does run off quite a few buyers....which is a good thing.

Yup. When push came to shove he did the right thing. I know that neither of us were happy with how this transaction went and I'm sure that we both learned a few things. As I said in a previous post - Neither of us were perfect in how this was handled. I even said that I was sure that Jason was a nice guy, just not in this transaction.

POST 57Original post

What's the problem? On the first page you said you were gonna swap the tires from your current wheels anyway. You got a hell of a deal, a little curb rash shouldn't be a huge deal.

POST 58Original post

Thanks for responding Jason. I think most folks fairly assumed there was another side to the story.

Wellardmac, Did you attempt to contact the seller about your dissatisfaction before you posted you "transaction review"? If not, you certainly should have.

POST 60Original post

you get what you pay for.....1000 bucks for original wheels is dirt cheap!! and fixing curb rash cost about 150 per wheel.....I think you are being unfair and actually kind of being a ***** about the whole situation!! But that's my 2 cents after reading ALL posts in this tread. The wheel look GREAT on your P and I know for a fact that shipping large parts is a pain and I charge extra when people pay me thru paypal as well!! (who cares about the rules...why would I have to suck up the 4% fees paypal charges me??) Anyway I think the seller explained the state of tires and rims very well..and as a photographer let me tell you that EVERYTHING AND EVERYBODY LOOKS BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN REAL LIFE!

Wayne, I can understand your paranoia working with somebody you don't know but IMHO (and I will take your side over a new guy any day) I have to take the seller's side as he gave you a smokin deal. Sure, it might have been a tad inaccurate on the description but they are used wheels and were pretty darn close to as described. $1K plus shipping/fees is more than fair. HOWEVER, I WANT TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR.......THE SELLER IS 100% AT FAULT FOR MISREPRESENTING THE WHEELS CONDITION AND AGE. Still a great deal but that doesn't excuse those actions. Good example, I sold my sport designs to another Rennlsiter last week and not only did the buyer pay for the shipping and fees but when I emailed him a copy of the receipt so he could have the tracking numbers he Paypal'd me the additional shipping costs ($16) that went over the "shipped" amount we agreed to and I didn't even ask for it! Further, he added in Paypal fees into the payment. That's beyond standup! Sounds like somewhere along the transaction you didn't "feel good" about it and instead when ahead but with overbearing lack of trust. You got a good deal, the seller unloaded his wheels, and all is well. You shouldn't have gone after him here though until after you two had talked it out via phone or email. BTW, how did he "charge" you for the fees if you are the one making the "send money" transaction to him through Paypal? There is NOTHING wrong with him asking you to pay those fees as they come out of his pocket. If you don't want to pay the fees you snail mail him a cashier's check. The already charge you those fee's....it is built into the cost of the product you are purchasing. Not like us amatuers that sell crap on eBay or to a Rennlister, etc.

All, Thank you for your comments. This was an imperfect deal and it can be debated from the sidelines all day long without it changing the facts. Beating it to death will not help me, nor Jason. This is my closing statement on this, and hopefully we can all let this go - remember boys, this is not an inquisition. I'll admit that there are things that I could probably have done differently here and it was a real lesson in how to do (or not do) a deal with a Rennlister and how to select which deal to participate in. I'm sure that both Jason and I could list things that should have gone better, but it will still not change the past. Both of us got burned by this. I have apologized to Jason for my part in this. I do not dispute that I got a good deal on these wheels (read my previous comments) - the price is not relevant to the discussion. The most important fact here is the accuracy of the description and the basic premise that Rennlisters will be honest in the description of goods for sale and in their transactions - it's one of the foundations of this forum. Without trust and honesty this forum is weaker. It did not help us that the transaction did not proceed smoothly due to screw-ups by PayPal and Bank of America, that did nothing but perpetuate mistrust on both sides. Regardless, I did my best to make things right and was open and honest in all of my actions. I did drop emails to Jason when it was clear that there were aspects of the description that were not as represented, but unfortunately, the first one appears not to have made it to him and then he was delayed by his schedule from responding to the second one before I went public with my discontent. I should have assumed an email problem before going public, as one of my earlier emails (before we closed the deal) also went missing, so I should have been open to the possibility of it happening again. Maybe I should have called him with the issue - I didn't. My bad, I don't have time for phone calls and rely on email. I'm not a phone person. Regardless, focus on the most important point here - making sure that goods are represented accurately. The initial description of the tires was my own, but my tire installer verified it when I went in to get the wheels installed on my car. I asked, "are these tires accurately described as 10% and 90% tread respectively?" - Let's say that his response was mocking to say the least. Look at the photographs posted above - they do not lie. It really is that simple. Whether or not I should care is a moot point made by people not in my shoes. I'm big on honesty and trust, that's why I come to this place, when I see something isn't right, then I'll try and fix it. You can hold me up for a crucifixion if you like, but that does not change the basic facts that I posted and that the description of the tires was not accurate. I offered to change any comment that was not correct. Jason and I can agree to disagree on the condition of the wheels and their cosmetic flaws. I got a good deal on them and they're in "good" condition, even if I was expecting less cosmetic damage - there is not a problem - we should all move on. I got good wheels and Jason got his money as promised. Both sides of the deal were fulfilled. The wheels look great on my car. Let's move on because very little else can be said.

Dell, As I own 3 retail establishments I understand that most of us work this way. BUT, all day long I see retailers in stick and brick locations and on the internet charge additional fees for CC transactions. Very common and still against the rules.
