I installed Xenon H7's in low, high and fog lights so that they are all the same.

Both my '01 RX300 and LS400 are modified so the fog lights can be used ALONE.

Second, they do absolutely NO GOOD when used with the low beams.

THAT is what you should be throwing the fit about--all these idiots running around with fake HID bulbs that run higher than normal wattages because the blue paint filters out most of the light spectrum.

I put the blue fog lights on and rewired my car so I can run fog lights and high beams at the same time.

That said, there's been a handful of times that I've had reason to use the REAR fog light, but let's be honest here--has anyone ever found a stock/OEM fog light system in a production car that actually helped them see in the fog?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have been searching and searching and looking at Ebay too but still undecided. The Philips bluevision H3s for the front fogs are for $40 or so on Ebay. For $70-90 I can find h3 xenons and ballasts. The question is how good are these xenon upgrade kits as comp-ared to the simple install of the bluevisions.
I am also curious to know what are some of the experiences here. Any particular favorite seller (there are 20-30 of them if not more).
Help me decide please.
thanks.

I'm so fed up with this I may try to get a law passed....
Fog lights should NEVER be used along with regular beams, low or high....!!!!
Why is it only the europeans know that...??
Long ago we Americans were also conscious of this but now we seemingly have been DUMBED DOWN by the Japanese automotive manufacturers. With most Japanse cars the fog lights can ONLY be used if the low beams aer on. Both my '01 RX300 and LS400 are modified so the fog lights can be used ALONE.
First, their, fog lights, "close in" lighting has an adverse effect on a person's distance vision at night.
Second, they do absolutely NO GOOD when used with the low beams.
Fog lights typically have a LOW and WIDE beam pattern so as to best penetrate a ground fog, and oftentimes an amber coloring to give us humans better definition of visible features while driving slow enough for actual FOGGY conditions.
In short the ONLY benefit to using fog lights except in actual foggy conditions is to impress or even BLIND oncoming drivers.
And you want make then even BRIGHTER...!!
oh gosh!! where did I saw brighter? I wanted to match the color temperature if I ever use them ALONE or otherwise. I have never seen fogs BLIND anyone as they sit so low. Also what is wrong with the bluevision bulbs as they are the same wattage etc. Can someone provide any insight?
PS: Matching color temp does not mean BRIGHTER...i guess you already know that

Actually, I have a set of the HID 3000k bulbs for my foglights on my 1999 (Also equipped with litronics)... we get alot of fog in the central valley and they do help. The color penetrates the fog better and the fog lens disperses the beam better regardless of the bulb type. Now fitting the ballast and wiring it to the bulb is a whole different story... you have to get creative since you can't extend the bulb to ballast wiring!
P.S. I do agree that the fog should have the option to be turned on independent of low/high beam though!

I sometimes use my fog lights as "city lights" at dusk when I don't care to have the full intensity of the low beams.
That said, there's been a handful of times that I've had reason to use the REAR fog light, but let's be honest here--has anyone ever found a stock/OEM fog light system in a production car that actually helped them see in the fog? They're all mounted too high to be of much use, if you ask me.
Also, I wouldn't put blue-painted bulbs in my Porsche (or any car, for that matter) if you paid me. THAT is what you should be throwing the fit about--all these idiots running around with fake HID bulbs that run higher than normal wattages because the blue paint filters out most of the light spectrum.
I don't have HID headlamps in my 996. I have "bi-xenon" headlamps in my other car. I prefer the HID lighting, but not enough to make me start playing switcharoo with the parts that some fine German engineers decided to put in my car because I want to put some junk from eBay in.
...and yes, those $150/250 eBay HID kits ARE a joke. You'd be better off with the stock halogens unless your goal is to **** people off. Unfortunately, too many people think that others are impressed by the kind of headlamps in your car. News flash: no one gives a hoot.
I haven't changed any lighting in my P-car, but in my S8 (which sees lots of winter driving, some fog) I switched out the stock bulbs for the PIAA Ion Crystal bulbs. They are yellow, and it's the color that cuts thru the fog so unbelievably well compared to low beam headlights. I may try to get a set for my cab as I prepare it for winter fun.
Hmmm... hard to explain, will try to get pics once my car is out of the body shop. I think the ballast was mounted on the side of the inner fender next to where the headlight mounts. You have to keep the wiring for the bulb to ballast which is about 6". I used one of the more expensive OEM type kits with Phillips bulb and ballast and seem to be holding up well.

I put the blue fog lights on and rewired my car so I can run fog lights and high beams at the same time. Next paycheck, I'm gonna put a coffee-can exhaust from PepBoys on.
Seriously, I think I have used fog lights half a dozen times in the 20 years since I have been driving. I find the rear fog lights to be much more useful as they make your car stand out on the highway in heavy rain in the daytime.
You're not the only one. Factory fog lights are a joke and are included only because when you spend this kind of money on a car, people expect that they'll be there.
I find that wearing my Maui Jim sunglasses in daytime fog or rain enhances my visibility substantially.
Fog lights do very little to enhance my ability to see.
I switched out the factory bulbs for "AW" (amber tint) types immediately.
If you have ever snow-skiied in marginal light conditions you know that an amber goggle lens gives you better terrain definition in those conditions.
So an amber light source doesn't really give better fog penetration, but provides an aid to human vision for the "normal" penetration it does provide.
