Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had a ZF tranny step-tronic 330i and I never, ever used the manual change feature.
Leading evidence: 'Use manual' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'worst time' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace feature' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coming up on December, probably the worst time to sell a Porsche.

Plus, less things to go wrong and less oil to change with the 6 speed.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The local stealership has a CPO 2002 Targa with 14k miles asking $42,900. Only catch is, and I know this is subjective, it's red and a tiptronic. Is the combination of red/targa/tip the reason it seems so reasonable compared to other cars I have viewed of late? Thanks.
That sounds like a great deal to me. Especially as a CPO. Red in my opinion is not a negative. Red 996's are fairly difficult to locate. The tip however is def. a negative. I would think it takes off 3K easily.
If you really love the car, that's what matters. If you have your heart set on a 6 speed....that barrier is too tall to overlook. You will NOT be happy with this car if you want manual.
Best,
J
+2. I personally don't see the point of not having a pure "straight drive" in a car like a 996. I had a ZF tranny step-tronic 330i and I never, ever used the manual change feature. Would just put it in sport mode and go. Get the 6 speed! Plus, less things to go wrong and less oil to change with the 6 speed. Then you're only worry is a clutch.
I think that the 04 for 42K (I meand 44K) is a STEAL!!! Damn Tim where were you when I bought my P...oeps I forgot...I don't wanted a roof and NEEDED a tip.....tooo lazy to change gears )OKAY my wifes fault.. I know...but you got to love her for giving me such a pretty little baby girl!!)
but honestly Tim you car is so clean I think it looks better than a new one and I don't understand you still didn't sell it!!
While it is subjective, as mentioned above....the Tip isn't all bad! I have one on the C4 but I don't track this car. I wouldn't pay extra for one but unless you have to have the 6 speed, it would not be a deal breaker for me if it was to be be mostly a street car!!!
If you don't want a Tip and are willing to spend $40 something for a P car I'd also go with the 04 C2 that has loads of extras and improvements, but it isn't a Targa.
The tip will kill future resale as well. Coming up on December, probably the worst time to sell a Porsche. Negotiate the crap out of it, if you decide to buy it. You could probably buy Tim's car for 39,900 if you threw in a Nintendo Wii.

OHHH...I see now...that's arena or some other red... (not guards red like I originally thought...which IMO is stunning). while I like that color, it's certainly not a very desirable color...hence the lower price. That, coupled with being a tip is gonna be tough to unload any time of the year for normal 'market' prices.
J
Both Targas and Tips are niche markets, which helps explain the good price.
There is a red Targa which parks in my work garage. It is a beautiful car. I think it looks better than a coupe (not that I would trade).
So let me understand this...the car you are showing us:
- is not the colour you want
- does not have a 6-speed
- and is a Targa which you are not in the market to buy
I do not understand why you would buy something you do not want.
Now in regards to the price of the car, yes that is a good price but again it is not the desireable car hence the low price.
So make up your mind as to what exactly you want and get it or you will be kicking yourself if you do not buy the car you want.
The color wouldn't be my first choice, but it's not a deal breaker either. Same with the Targa top. The sticking point is the tip.
You are probably right in that I'm putting too much weight on this particular car because of the price, low mileage, and CPO. But if I buy it right and really don't like the tip, I am figuring I can always roll out of it without too much pain.
So when I was looking I first set my budget (minus 20% for mods), chose my colour, then chose my look, oh and it had to be a Carrera Coupe also. So this put me in a certain year range and a very hard car to find, but I finally found it (see sig). I was not going to settle for anything else, in other words I did not have a 2nd choice.
So think about what you 'really' want and look for it.
Oh and if you cannot find exactly what you are looking for, find sometthing close and then make it be the car you want. In my case the wheels that came with the car were not what I wanted at all, but I looked past that knowing that my 20% budget for mods will cover a new set of wheels and tyres.

Feel free to pursue this car but thanks for asking. I have been agonizing over buying a 911 for months and will probably continue to waffle for a while longer. Deep down, I think I will wait for a speed yellow or black six speed.
I'll have to let you know my address so you can mail my 5% finders fee, though!
Good on you. I don't think you would have been disappointed with the purchase of this car, but again it is not what you are ultimately wanting. Even though you are in the market to buy a 911, you do not have any deadline, plus the prices are dropping all the time. It took me months to find the Speed Yellow as they are very rare. Black you should be able to find easier.
Keep us posted and keep your eyes on this forum as rennlist'rs will sell there cars on here now and then because they are upgrading.
You know Tim, your car is really gorgeous. Someone's going to get a great car - it's a tough time of year to sell - as you know. Where else are you advertising it? Ebay/Autotrader/Craigslist?? For the right $$, your car should move.
