Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anybody know what all is required to import a car (2004 996) into the U.S? I'm in Kuwait for at least the next year and am the proud new owner of a nice 996. When I do finally get around to heading home I'd like to try and take it with me if it's reasonably feasible. I've heard you may or may not need to change out a few things: Windshield and other glass speedometer (It's in KPH, although the digital can do MPH easily enough) Emissions components Anything I'm missing or legal hurdles I should be aware of?

POST 2Original post

Just my 2 cents... a lot of overseas buyers import Porsches from the USA because Porsches are a LOT cheaper in the US. I think you would be better off selling your Porsche in Kuwait and buying another one once you arrive stateside.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got a good deal on it compared to stateside prices from what I could research. The first owner was also the Amir's daughter (Kuwaiti princess) which is kind of cool and may or may not bump up the value marginally. Nothing is set in stone at any rate and it's about a year out at least before I may end up leaving. In the mean time I'm going to enjoy it as much as possible, gas that converts to about 70 cents a gallon doesn't hurt one bit (bottled water goes for $3-4 a case, so it's actually cheaper than water). :-o

POST 4Original post

If you got a deal on your car then you should be able to turn a profit when you sell the car in Kuwait -- maybe even make enough money to get a new 997 when you get back to the states. Anyway, you have a year to think about it. In the meantime, enjoy your 996 and your 70 cent gas!

Wouldn't it be more likely that someone in Kuwait would pay a little more for that than someone in the US? Add in shipping, duty, taxes, etc. and that could really change the economics of the whole deal.
