Should I stick with those sizes or go larger since these wheels/tires will only be used on the track.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to get the lightest wheels that don't cost an arm & leg. I've heard the turbo twist hollow spoke are about the lightest. Does anyone know there weight vs the normal turbo twist wheel weight.
Is the proper size for my car 18x8.5 or 8.0 for fronts and 18x10 for the rears. I now have 225x40x18 on the fronts and 265x35x18 on the rears. Should I stick with those sizes or go larger since these wheels/tires will only be used on the track.
The best price I've got on a set of 4 is 1,500 for the hollow spoke and 1,000 for the standard spoke turbo twist. Are these good prices. No tires included.
After the wheel size there is a et number. Is this the offset number. What is the correct for a 2001 C2. Thanks a lot.

You can go to a wider rear, 285, keeping the fronts the same, 225. Tho it may give a bit more understeer, that is what PCNA starting doing from '02 onward. Unless you are going to go with much wider rears (like the GT3) you should stick with 8" fronts. That said, the gt3 is a narrow body I think it has 11" rears and 8.5" fronts, so they should fit with the proper offset if that's the way you wanna go.
As far as rims, the 5 spoke carreras are pretty lightweight, too, I think the full set of 4 is lighter than 4 hollow turbo's:
18" Carrera wheels:
8" x 18" = 20.50 lbs.
10" x 18" = 22.70 lbs.
I picked up my 5 spokes WITH 95% new Pirellie Rosso, for 2k. The rims are in perfect shape. So look around you might find a deal out there.
The info I got from Wheel Enhancement for the 18" Carrera 5-spoke Lightweight wheels are:
19 lbs. 5oz. for the fronts & 23 lbs. 6 oz. for the rears.
Just sharing the info.
Thanks for the replies.
It looks like I should go with a 18x8 wheel and 225x40x18 tires on the front and 18x10 wheel and 285x35x18 on the rears. Would it be logical to go with a 235x40x18 tire on the front to cut down on the understeer with the larger rear tire. I have no idea if this is logical. Thanks.
Ken
I've heard that 996's get better performance on the track with the 17" wheels than with the 18" wheels. I know that doesn't seem right but, you may want to look into it. It would save you money on the wheels and tires. I'd call Wheel Enhancement first. They seem to be very knowledgeable.

I think the best wheel/Tire setup for your car is 245/35/18 on 18x9 in front and 305/30/18 on 18x11 in back. I've tried a bunch of different combos and this seems to work the best. Other 996 club racers seem to agree. (If you have PSM you might need to go with 245/40s)
Having said that, I don't think you can get there cheaply. The very smallest you should go is a 245/285 combo on 18x8-18x10. As you already know, you can do this cheaply but it's a pretty serious compromise. Anything inbetween should work fine.
Lessons learneed. 1) Don't put 265s on front. They will fit but you'll have trouble getting them hot and they'll end up with less stick than smaller tires. 2) Look for used, dinged up, track wheels that you can get at a good price. There is no way to keep track wheels nice. You are constantly taking them on and off and mounting and unmounting tires. 3) If you haven't already done so, go buy 4 wheel bolts so that you can throw away your wheel locks. 4) Inspect your wheels often. On the track, wheels are under incredible stress. They do fail. 5) Have fun.
