Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
going from "A" to "M" (and back) only changes the shift mode, not the actual gear engaged.
Leading evidence: 'Replace shift mode, not the actual gear engaged' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace shift mode, not the actual gear engaged' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have only been switching from automatic to tiptronic (and vice versa) when stopped at a light.
Is it okay to switch while the car is moving? If so, are there RPM considerations to only switch in a certain range? Also, if it's okay to switch while moving, does it matter if you're accelerating or not?
Thanks.

switch any time you want. going from "A" to "M" (and back) only changes the shift mode, not the actual gear engaged.
when you're in "M", the cpu will intercede any bad shift moves, so go crazy on the downshifts (and give it gas while you do!)
The tip is about as stupid proof as it could possibly be.........It will not let you make shifting mistakes related to under or over reving the engine. This includes the fact that if you have it in manual in 5th gear and do not downshift as you come to a stop, the tip will do it for you......yes, even if you are in manual.
For spirited driving I recommend you put it in manual mode, that way you only have one brain trying to decide what gear the car should be in. While the tip may be better at making these decisions than many of us, having two cooks at the stove is dangerous when there is a "whole lotta shaking going on"......
I have almost a one hour drive to and from work.
When I'm tired, or when traffic is bad, I keep it in automatic so I can relax.
Thanks for the tips.

It works better in the auto mode for all purposes- sedate street, spirited street, and track. The only place I found M to be better was autocross, since it would stay in gear with the throttle entirely lifted, allowing very easy tail rotation. Therefore, also better in M if you want to practice 180 degree "bootleg" turns. AS
I have not experienced jerkey shifting in manual mode, just the opposite. In addition in manual mode you avoid having the car upshift in instances where you don't want it to do so, such as approaching an apex under light throttle........
Perhaps we can agree that the TIP is flrxibla and serve a wide array of applications...........
Gretch- In auto, it won't upshift in track use, as long as you keep the chassis loaded- either hard braking or significant G's. The exception is auto cross where you leave from a standing start and take an immediate turn. You havn't had enough room to load the chassis and it may upshift from 1 to 2 when you lift the throttle. On the track, if you're using rapid and full throttle travel, and subsequently loading the chassis, the car will downshift under braking (not upshift) and will hold the gear going into the corner. Of interest, in linked turns, the car may upshift only under hard throttle. This allows the shift to be completed without upsetting the chassis, which would otherwise occur in a manual if you declutch to upshift in a corner (with resultant spin). It's quite amazing how much better the car is in full auto when you're really driving hard. An added plus is that the upshifts occur at redline- something difficult to achieve with the buttons. AS
