Looking at the PET it looks like this can be replaced with a cubby, p/n 996 552 253 01 01C.

Used the cubby holder from my Boxster which got a CD holder.

if you do an audio install, you can put your air conditioning and DVD head unit in the lower center consol and put a double din screen at the top (DSP amp would be replaced by aftermarket unit).

At least for me. I will never have a cassette in the car. Looking at the PET it looks like this can be replaced with a cubby, p/n 996 552 253 01 01C. Anyone know if this is accurate?
Anyone done anything else interesting with that space?

I keep CD's in mine, but have been thinking about going the cubby holder so I have a place for my phone and what not. I guess it's not too bad to reach over and grab the CD wallet now and again. And yes, I have an MP3 wired into the aux-in of the CDR220m but CDs still sound better....especially with classical.
Used the cubby holder from my Boxster which got a CD holder. The CD changer for the 996 is in the trunk so to me even the CD holder did not make sense. I like the cleaner look of the cubby. Another option which I am kicking around is the GT3 center console delete..I am a tall guy and could use some leg room.
I don't need extra storage space so no cubby for me. CD holder is just as useless so no thanks. I'm just keeping the cassette since it's flush and doesn't rattle much.

Jerler, there are lots of things you can put into the cubby din. if you do an audio install, you can put your air conditioning and DVD head unit in the lower center consol and put a double din screen at the top (DSP amp would be replaced by aftermarket unit).
We also sell the full line of MA Carbon products, which includes carbon fiber versions of the cubby hole, the cd trays etc etc.
I found the cubby holder on Ebay with Savanah Beige leather ( I think it came out of a turbo) for only $15.00. It may be hard to find one in leather, but it looks alot better than the black plastic. But if you haved a black interior I guess it would not make much difference.
The CD holder just pulls out. You "open" (extend) all 5 cd slots, grab them and pull the entire unit straight out. Maybe Dell of someone else can give you the specifics on the casette holder.
I used a soft tip screw driver put it between the cassette holder and the console, gently pull down...there are a couple (2 I think) clips that once come out from the console it just slides, you can look at the CD storage or cubby you will install to see the exact location. It will take you no time, I was a little slower at 9.1 seconds, I am just a little annal and took my time.
