Hilarious to see that word used on this forum considering that many of us have lived all over the world.

So let's go with unlicensed use of a trademark, shall we?

At worst it is a tenuous unlicensed use of the Porsche brand, but I'm pretty sure that there's lots of that out there and we would find some in Bruce's house - think license plate holders, key fobs, clothing, etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They are a little pricey, but look pretty good. Anyone bought these and care to chime in?
http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...ry_Code=996exc
I bought on the group buy alum. pedals, but I have not yet mounted them. Considering other options before I start drilling... Thx.
They look very nice! I actually like the overall shapes of these snaplock pedals more than the ones in the group buy, although the 'Porsche' logo would be a nice-to-have. A bit steep at $300, and I'd like to know and see the quality of the snaplock fit before considering them.
What does "snaplock" mean is that just the brand, or do they snap on as opposed to drilled and bolted. I would be afraid of them coming off. Everything that snaps....unsnaps.
If they "snap off" could they block the motion of the brake pedal or throttle?
I'd check out if they pass a tech inspection for an Autocross event, for example, just for safety sake. Just a thought.
I have a set of those, the quality is pretty good and as many has said before these will just snap-on, no need for drilling or screwing, that is the main reason I bought them, did not want to drill or mess the OEM pedals with holes. That way I can take them out later if I sell the car. The snap-on mechanism is pretty strong and tight, and so far I have no problem with them as they don't snap-off the pedals. For those you do heel-toe shifting or have large feet Oops
, these may not be a good idea as your foot could accidentally pull these off the pedals (snap-off) when quickly moving your foot around down there. I shift normally and so far never had any issue. I also like the little rubber inserts for better grip. They kinda expensive but you pay for the convenience, I guess ... Cheers.
Classic... you better find a new home to go hang out, since 40+ people on the 996 board are financially challenged poseurs that just ordered these in a group buy! Have fun at 6speed... see you
Just an observation, there, cowboy, 100% factual and inarguable:
Financially challenged: They're a hundred bucks cheaper. A hundred lousy bucks.
Poseur: They aren't real. They only look real. Therefore, appearances must be paramount to you.
Counterfeiting: The maker has infringed on Porsche's copyright.
You want cheap pedals, buy cheap pedals. But if you want cheap pedals and want to LOOK as if you spent more, well, as I said... hard to argue with the observation.
Steven,
The rubber inserts are rounded like in the earlier picture, giving you good grips. I am not sure if you are talking about the clip part mechanism behind these pedals that can brake off??? As far as the fitting of these on the pedals themselves, they are tight and good fit. So far mine have been fine, though I must admit that my car is not a DD but rather a weekend car only
I think that the screws ones are more robust overall in the long term.
Cheers,
With the pedals that we got from the group buy, the rubber ends protrude much better on to the foot area and I feel no give or movement at all from them when my fet want to move during driving, in fact tehy do not move (better than the stock pedals for sure). The rounded ones IMHO may give more to when you move your feet around on the pedals but can't say for sure since I have not tried them to be able to make that comparison. I do, as you mention, feel more comfortable with the screw on ones but once they are on I doubt anyone would take them off again, where as the snaplock ones can be moved from Porsche to Porsche with the interchangeable inserts, which I do like. Not sure how long the inserts on mine will last but like you it is not a DD or track car so they should hold-up quite well for several years.
I don't think there is any argument here in this thread that one is better than the other, it is personal preference not a cost factor in my mind, and I see no Poseurness (not a word but you know what I mean) from having the screw on ones from the group buy that says Porsche on them, it's just a nice touch.
Right... I wasn't trying to start a war. I have the group-buy pedals. I'm not sure if that makes me a poser or not.
I also have Lloyd's floor mats that say "PORSCHE". To the best of my knowledge, they were not hand-stitched in Stuttgart... but they do pay steep royalties for the privilege , so I guess I'm not a floor-mat-poser?
I just haven't decided to mount the group-buys yet. Exploring one more option before I do...
It blows me away that the simple morality of this eludes you. If I bought a copy of a 996 that said Porsche on it but was built in some anonymous factory in a far off land by people who didn't even bother trying to license the name, would that be okay? Would you consider me a smart consumer for not bothering to pay for a real Porsche?
If you want to do this crap, go right ahead. Just man up and admit that it's no better than buying pirated DVDs from a Manhattan street vendor.
Bruce,
My last post re this, because I just don't have the energy to deal with you on this and don't want to get a big repeat of the non-OEM gauge rings posting.
Many people on this board (including me) like the pedals we got in a group buy; I don't think all of these folks are cheating, cheap poseurs as you describe us to be, but if you believe all of us are, that is your good right. We can agree to disagree...
I think it's more straighforward than that:
Fake Porsche stuff. If that's not posing, what is? And if it's not abetting the manufacturer's larceny, what is it? There really isn't any other side to this one.
Sorry about your energy level.
Thanks... it's back and I am ready for more!
By the way, do you remeber this quote:
"Oh, and I'll cancel my membership as soon as I'm convinced most folks on this board are like you. "
That quote you used against arr0gant when you were on your
box a couple of weeks ago on the same topic. Since then, 51 chaep, lying and cheating poseurs on this board have ordered these pedals... so maybe it is time to pack your bags and go to 6speed... (although Ireally don't want to see you or anybody here leave
)
Okay, here's my one contribution.
i) They're not counterfeit. To be so would require Porsche from making and selling the same items- they do not, therefore by definition they are not counterfeit.
At worst it is a tenuous unlicensed use of the Porsche brand, but I'm pretty sure that there's lots of that out there and we would find some in Bruce's house - think license plate holders, key fobs, clothing, etc. He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones.... well, unless Bruce can prove that everything he owns that is emblazoned with a Porsche name is a licensed product of Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG.
Smacks of hypocracy to me.
ii) Price is irrelevant, it's quality that matters. These pedals are known for their high quality.
I call a troll where I see a troll. It's plain and simple. Much ado about nothing.
Well, I have had similar pedals mounted in my car for about a year. I was so shamed by Bruce's comments that I put the OEM pedals back on my car. Somehow they don't look quite right, but I can't really figure out why! Well, at least it covered up the PORSCHE insignia!
Bruce - I just wanted to inject a little humor to the thread. I thought it was needed.
Wellardmac, I need to ask if you have paid for the rights to that "Carrera" badge in your signature. It has the look of a non-sanctioned, unlicensed (i.e. fake) photograph. :P
Actually, yes, we all did. The use of a product after it has been legitimately purchased from the manufacturer is called an implicit license - i.e. if they sell it to you, then they authorized you to use it for whatever purpose you have in mind.
As for the photograph itself, well, as I took the photograph, then that would make me the copyright holder of the image and I can do with it as a choose. If you were to take the image that I produced and use it, then I could sue your pants off.
Very good contribution, thank you. Not literate, but heartfelt.
On your point about the product being counterfeit, you may well be correct. I can't swear they're exact copies any more than you can swear they aren't. So let's go with unlicensed use of a trademark, shall we?
The word you're looking for in your second cogent parry is 'hypocrisy'. You won't find it at my house. I spend a great deal of my time working with intellectual property. I have a keen sense of what it takes to build it, and an equally keen sense of the damage that gets done when logos and trademarks are appropriated and not defended. As a worldwide industry, this kind of crap costs billions. It costs jobs. It devalues innovation, which is a bad thing for economies in developed countries, since those countries don't actually manufacture much anymore. And it dilutes the goodwill in brands that makes us want to buy them in the first place, and which makes them profit generators, generators of the same profit that makes your 401k grow and pays your salary. I'm afraid you're bringing a knife to this particular gunfight, cowboy.
And I am not required to "prove" anything. What a stupid throwdown that is. That is the last ditch defense of a message board troll who is out of ideas.
You know you're wrong, or you'd have more to offer than the observation that other people do it, too. The same is true of nose picking. Enjoy your pedals.
Bla, bla, bla... but, don't leave the board
... too much fun here with everybody. What do you say Bruce?
PS Was thinking about you when I saw this:

Bruce, with an attitude like yours it's easy to see how long you'll last around here.
Is there anyone you've not insulted since you arrived?
Hope to see that our friends to the North stay there.
For now you'll be heading onto my ignore list, as it's obvious that you share no value in this community.
I'm waving the white flag and this is what you come back with???
I have lived on 4 continents in 6 different countries, speak 4 languages and you call me a bigot?? Time you start to lighten up a bit Brucie...
I am sorry Bruce... didn't know you were so sensitive! After all the tough talking, I thought you could handle a bit of humor...
Well here we go... hope this makes you feel better and make sure to drink some warm milk and go pottie before you go night night...
It's even funnier when you can only see half the conversation.

Hilarious to see that word used on this forum considering that many of us have lived all over the world.
Not that sensitive. It's just getting a bit 'Lord of the Flies' in here. And going for the Canadian thing just seemed so lame.
I've just been taking a stand for something I believe in (which I gather isn't always popular in America these days). I certainly didn't mean to **** people off, just to make them think. That's the problem with the internet: No tone of voice. But I am the kind of guy who won't back off when the dogpile starts.
If someone happens to be speaking to Wellardmac, please remind him that centuries of colonialism have proven that it is possible to travel and live elsewhere without becoming in the slightest bit enlightened. He may or may not in real life be a bigot, but his passport proves nothing either way and waving it around, as with so many things, proves nothing.
You might also want to suggest to him that he not presume to speak for all of Rennlist. Unless there was an election and I somehow missed it.
Not bigoted at all. I am, in fact, also an American citizen. But you don't need me to tell you that political discourse is a bit strained in America these days. Your own media are on about it constantly. No bigotry intended, and happy to discuss. Sorry if the intent of the comment was confusing.
