I currently use a lint roller to take off fuzz from the top.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I second this charger, I used it to store my Porsche last winter and it worked great.
Hey Guys
Its around that time when I need to get my act together and put the 996 away for the winter. I have searched the forums for the recommended items to do before storing, oil change, sta bil in gas tank, increase tire pressure etc.
I am looking for a good recommendation on car covers and battery tenders. I will be storing the car inside a garage.
I am debating between the Coverking offered by Costco,
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...rodid=11618901
or this one from Suncoast
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...Code=POTE996WW
.
Also, looking for a decent battery tender. I have seen some that plug into the wall outlet and others that just plug into the cigarette lighter. Which should I be looking to get?
Also, is it wise to connect the batery tender and cover the car at the same time?
Thanks in advance.
I've had great success with the Porsche brand that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

If you get this one, note that it's engineered a little strangely. The red light stays on until the battery is fully charged. Once it's charged the red light goes off -- so your never really sure if there is a charge going through the line (how difficult is it to add a little green light??) It's a little anxiety causing at times. But it works.
As far as covers, as long as your car is indoors no need to go crazy. Just get something that fits well, has a good dust barrier and breathes well.

+1. This unit works great for me.
I have a CTEK battery charger it's great, totally automatic and comes with the option of having a quick connector, just plug into the harness and set it, works well if you tend to store the car a lot. likely cheaper than the dealers options as well
Autosport.com has an auto sport brand tender that works great, I've used it for 2 years and it only cost $40 (got mine on sale for $30).
I Dont cover my car....because I like looking at it each morning as I get into my DD. Yes it gets dusty but I'd reather see the car everyday.
This will be my first year storing the 996. My battery died last week and the dealer said to just disconnect it and buy a new one in the spring. So other than battery and cover, anything else I should do to prep for the 4-5 months of garage storage?
I can see where that would cause a problem. I currently use a lint roller to take off fuzz from the top.
As long as it works, my main concern.
I don't look at my car with as much "lust" as I did when I first got it. Maybe something is wrong with me??
Saw this list on the forum, hope it helps:
1) All maintenance up-to-date
2) Fresh/recent oil change
2b) Full concours detail, interior, exterior, wheels pulled
3) Fuel stabilized with Sta-Bil (run in a few miles)
4) Gas tank very-very full
5) Tires over filled with nitrogen (approx 58 PSI)
6) Park on a thick mil plastic painter's tarp (Home Depot)
7) Several pounds of desiccator in cabin, windows closed
8) Park out of gear, NO e-brake, chock wheels with small wood blocks
9) Plug in Porsche battery maintainer
10) Lock doors, put car keys in floor safe ( or safe deposit box)
10b) Cover car with a high quality car cover (Porsche and Carnewal)
10c) Call insurance company, and suspend most coverages (save $$$)
11) Hand roll car about 8-12" the first Saturday of each month
12) Last month of storage, do step #11 weekly
13) In the spring, bleed excess air
13b) Prior to starting in the spring, manually turn over engine in 5th gear, or pull fuel pump fuse, and crank over (you need to read more about this step on Rennlist)
13c) Make sure car is running fine, no noises, leaks, bug/animal infestation etc.
14) Go on a +300 mile drive, and buy fresh fuel
