But, I wouldn't guarantee that insurance companies don't have a way of pinging all DMVs to check for traffic violations and adjusting your premium accordingly.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Outcome without a verified action link

the laser jammer obviously did not work in this situation and with instant on radar detection guns it is usually too late to slow down by the time the driver is notified by the system.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Very interesting issue between the two units. I am so used to the monitoring and measuring the V1 that I decided to hardwire the V1 and run it along side the K40 front/rear w/laser diffuser. Yesterday, i intentionally gassed it a bit past a trooper on the Tollway to see answer my own questions. I truly now think the K40 Laser Diffuser does work and returns an incomplete reading to the radar gun. This is the second time I have had a distinctive issue with speed and not gotten stopped. Last week, late in the evening, I was toying with a new M6 out in the middle of nowhere. And although he could barely catch my supercharged C2, I was the first to top the crest of a hill and see the trooper. The K40 and V1 both slammed the dash with lights and warnings. The audible response of the K40 jamming the signal went off and to my surprise the trooper never even moved on me with. I had a 50 yard lead on the M6 and the very second the M topped the hill, the trooper light up and came out to play. I slowed first and moved towards the shoulder knowing that I was is a mild crap-load of trouble and to my elation he shot right past me and picked up on the M for the ticket. The catch...twenty minutes later the trooper pulled into the gas station I was at , got out of the car and knelt down to look under the front bumper. He was very pleasant but firm and proceeded to explain to meet that he knew he had a returned radar signal the was inaccurate and that he had no choice but to ticket the M6. He also explained to me the difference of illegal radar band signals and laser signals. I did not know that the laser diffusing product was governed by the FDA whereas the x, k, ka radar jamming was a huge felony as it is governed by the FCC and big trouble to be caught with such a thing. I am sure a great majority of you guys may already be aware of this and the differences but it was new and very interesting to me so I thought I would share it with anyone who has yet to experience it. As for the units, the K40 seems to absolutely work in the diffuser technology but does sound off quite a bit more than the V1. For the time being, I can not decide which is more accurate or whether I am just used to understanding how to read and interpret the V1. Time will tell and I will run with the both for a while.

POST 2Original post

Very interesting information and thanks for sharing. I do not have any radar detector as such, never thought I would need one, but maybe I should look into getting one now that I have a Porsche and 'will' drive faster than the posted speed limit. As of yet I have not done any research but I have heard about the V1 a lot on threads. Just that when I search for V1 on the net it comes back with so much, any idea where I can look to get more information (i.e. a link). Again thanks.

POST 5Original post

FDC? Did you mean FDA? FDA regulates medical lasers, not sure about laser diffusers.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, Did mean FDA...my bad, and fixed.

POST 7Original post

For my setup, I have a V1 paired with the Escort ZR3 Shifter. I've had a couple of opportunities to "test" the shifter, and it seems to work. Last week, I came up on a trooper with laser while safely driving over the speed limit, and I got hit once, then there was a brief pause then he hit me again. The first time I was definitely over the limit and he didn't move.

POST 8Original post

I won both and it is important to point out that the K40 jams laser not radar. The laser gun cannot be employed from a moving vehicle and needs to be much closer to the line of target direction. I saw a very intersting demo a while back when my car was parked a few feet from a white reflective garage door. A technician triggered my laser receiver once and after that he walked away but the receiver continued to indicate it's own responsive transitting pulses. The result was a perpetual cycle=pretty cool. I wish I had it last fall when my V1 was a very precise laser ticket detector! Steve

POST 9Original post

Nice story. Quite frankly I think you've answered your own question as to which system you feel more secure with. I have the K40 and to date it has saved me several times. Wouldn't drive without it. Again great write up. Your heart must have sank when you saw the trooper pull into the gas station. Jay

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea, I got a bit excited when I saw him but as soon as he got out of the car, I could tell by his approach posture that I was going to get chewed out and then we were going to chat about the car.

POST 11Original post

Just started looking into this based on this thread. Is the Defuser only sold as a front license plate frame? http://www.k40.com/othe_defu.html Is it the same for the rear? I have a euro plate in the front, as front plates are not required in GA.

POST 12Original post

i have had the laser diffuser installed on two of my cars and it was mounted underneath the license plate just under the lip of the front bumper.

POST 13Original post

just a side note to the discussion regarding the k-40 laser diffuser. the company is very consumer friendly and they will pay with no hassels any speeding ticket that you get as long as the police clocked you with a laser gun. i got a ticket in CT going 92 in a 65, which cost me about $300, and k-40 reimbursed me a few weeks later. All i had to do was fax them a copy of the speeding ticket and the bank check. this leads me to the point that no system is invincible to police detection devices. the laser jammer obviously did not work in this situation and with instant on radar detection guns it is usually too late to slow down by the time the driver is notified by the system.

POST 14Original post

Great, so they paid for your ticket. Will they also pony up for your inreased insurance bill? Guys, all these detectors are a load against the uncertainty that is instant on. The only sure fire way to avoid a ticket is not to speed. Slightly less effective is to trail speeders about a quarter to half mile back and watch for brake lights. In my neck of the woods, I know where all the speed traps are, but on long drives to unfamiliar destinations, I set the cruise at 70. Yes, the government has taken all the fun out of driving. If we're lucky, maybe they'll just drive FOR us one day; hrmph, maybe even they'll live for us too. (Rant over).

POST 15Original post

As I'll be upgrading to a laser jamming system, I'm finding this thread interesting. Looking at the K-40 site, there is no rear protection with the K-40. Yes, they guarantee to pay the tickets, but being lasered in the rear is something I would rather avoid, than be reimbursed for the ticket. They don't refund points on the license. Looking at the Beltronics RX-75 Pro , although it's pricey, it seems to be a more complete system for front and rear protection. Anybody have any experience with the Beltronics system?

POST 16Original post

"lasered in the rear is something I would rather avoid"... got a good chuckle out of that. fortunately in NY, from what i understand and what my insurance buddy tells me, is that as long as you have no claims the insurance companies never look at out of state activity. you do not get points on your license from out of state speeding tickets as long as you just pay the fine on time.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have had a Bel or Two and although I liked them as well as my Passport x50, the V1 was, and always will be, the one to choose for me. I love the "situational" radar arrows and have learned to read them quite well. Since I started this thread, I have spent more time paying attention to both the K40 and the V1. The K40 really is chattering all the time when the V1 is quite. The K40 flashes in the rear when the V1 is quite but I know the Diffuser if up there doing its thing which makes it an easy decision to live with the chattering that the V1 doesn't feel the need to reverb. My laser diffuser is mounted under the front bumper but is not in a plate frame. You can buy the diffuser without the frame.

POST 18Original post

You're spot on according to the NY DMV : If I get a ticket for a moving violation in another state, do I receive points on my NYS driver license? The NYSDMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The exceptions are alcohol-related violations, drug-related violations, and moving violations committed in Quebec or Ontario. Under special agreements, traffic convictions in Quebec or Ontario are recorded on NYS driver license records and carry points. Except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations. If you do not respond to a ticket or fail to pay a fine for a moving violation that you committed in any state except Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon or Wisconsin, the DMV suspends your NYS driver license until you respond to the ticket or pay the fine. If a driver from a state except these six states fails to respond to a traffic ticket issued in NYS, their driver license will be suspended until the driver responds to the traffic ticket in NYS. Drivers from other states must contact the DMV in their home state to get information about the effect of a traffic violation conviction that occurs in NYS. If you receive a conviction for an alcohol-related or drug-related driving violation in any state, your NYS driver license is revoked for at least six months. But, I wouldn't guarantee that insurance companies don't have a way of pinging all DMVs to check for traffic violations and adjusting your premium accordingly. But, if they only get it from the NY DMV, then I guess I'll be enjoying my drives in CT, MA, VT, and NJ a lot more. I will warn you that if you amass enough points in those states to have your license suspended, you WILL lose your privileges in THAT state. Ask me how I know...and how much of a hassle it was to resolve it.

POST 19Original post

nycebo, sounds like you are speaking from a bit of experience! i'm always a lot less worried when i'm driving out of state for just this reason. never like getting nailed by a cop but it is a bit more tolerable if you know that you are not going to get any points.
