Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace signature' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check around' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I also intend to have them replace my 23K mile clutch, wonder what they will quote me for that.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got it fixed with only one month left on warrantee.
Well today I confirmed what I knew already, cause I've been listening to you guys.
drip. drip. drip. RMS needs replacing.
Car will be returned tuesday next week. Fortunately, they've provided me with a rental car. Even more fortunately, I still have warranty coverage.
For grins, I asked "how much if this wasn't covered under warranty?"
10+ hours labor plus parts ....looking around $2000. Gulp.
I feel like I've now joined an special club.
Come in a make yourself confortable. I'll take your coat, Scouser has the drinks and mim3 will give your name tag and introduce you to the reat of the guys...
21K miles
3.25 years since "in service" date.
I became the owner about a year ago, @ 16K miles
I don't know if there is any correlation, but it seemed like I only noticed oil on the garage floor after higher-rev excursions. Anyone know anything about that?

I'm joining the club next week when I drop my 2002 coupe off. Hmmmmm, good idea about the rental car, hopefully that one has a good RMS. I also intend to have them replace my 23K mile clutch, wonder what they will quote me for that. Has anybody else done this? Makes sense, huh?
Im a club member wannabe. I havent joined yet so I went out to the garage and dripped a few drops of oil under my car just to know how it feels. I can hardly wait for my real RMS.
Chitownbob - yes, most prices in northern california are riduculous! (but then, some would say so are the W-2's around here) So it all comes out in the wash, that is until we move anywhere else and take home equity and put it in the bank.
Hi, I'm MIM3 come on in. I would be happy to make you a name tag! I bought many, as I think this club is definitely gonna grow! How can we help? $2K you say? What a rip off. So, the range is now $575 to $2000. Check around.
Out of warranty bad.
Under warranty good.
Some dealers good.
Most dealers bad.
PCNA, well lets just say
Good Luck!
if only the RMS needs replacing you are getting ripped off. parts are less than 50 bucks and most of the charge goes to labour, around 700~800 bucks. takes around 8hours for repair and shop rates average 100/hr. now if you need a new clutch (which may be the case as they don't last too long) then it's another 700~800 bucks.
as mim3 said "some dealers good, most bad". to be on the safe side, ask to see the clutch before they replace it.
when i had my boxster, the RMS and clutch replacement cost 1400(approx.).
point is moot since it's still under warranty.
Guys, very funny post! I laughed out loud in the office. Maybe the initiation should be for the new member has go into his garage and roll around in the oil drops.
But seriously, I'm sorry that you've suffered this problem. I hope that everything works out in your favor. I hope that I don't have to join the club. If so, I'll bring the dip.
Car came back from the RMS fix on Monday night. All seems to be running well, though acceleration feels a little different, maybe what I would describe as "tighter" or not quite a free rev'ing. Am I hallucinating? Or has anyone else noticed a different feel after the RMS is replaced?
I also thought that we need to delineate RMS Club members rank. My proposal:
General level - RMS fixed under warranty
Silver level - fixed RMS twice, under warranty
Gold level - any RMS fix not covered by warranty (even if first time)
Platinum level - engine replacement
(Sorry if this strikes a raw nerve with anyone, I just couldn't resist)
No I think its a great idea.
If everyone in the RMS club added their club status to their
signature, it would make a simple statement of dissatisfaction.
PAG will eventually see this and as a result, they may do
something about it.
Just changed my signature.
Scouser, that is great. Redcab, I am a blackcab but a reluctant wannabe.
I have clutch slippage at higher rpms, but no visable sign of a leak. I'll bet you know what I'm thinking.
This club thing is interesting. It's like a rite of passage. We wouldn't have to cut our faces like some African tribes do we? Will a deep frown and many cuss words do?
Torags -
Does your clutch slip more when you're accelerating uphill (on a freeway)?
If so, maybe it's just your clutch wearing thin.
Sorry, you don't get to join the RMS club. (yet)
No hill; just when down shifting and digging out when merging. The tires don't slip and it seems the clutch can't handle the torque curve. I had a tech test drive; he seemed to think OK.
Andy, I've spoken with a few 03 PC buyers and a 2 local dealer folks that I know, and none of them have seen any 03 models with RMS problems. I can only hope their telling the whole truth.
Oh glad to meet you, Yup General member here. I got it fixed with only one month left on warrantee. No big issue for me, but I do hope the new seal will last, as I really like a vehicle that can hold its liquids.
