And I thought too bad VW changed the engine to the front and lost its true uniqueness, when all of a sudden it hit me like a freight train: that's what they are going to do with the 998!

I was on my way to work this morning driving my rented Huyndai (my 996 is getting a new bumper-hit a tire carcass on the freeway 2 weeks ago and cracked the old one) minding my own business, missing my 996, when I noticed two identical new silver beetles in front of me at a stoplight. And I started admiring their beautiful shapes. A marvel of design especially from my viewpoint, from behind. Reminded me of my 996, curvaceous and appealing. And I thought too bad VW changed the engine to the front and lost its true uniqueness, when all of a sudden it hit me like a freight train: that's what they are going to do with the 998! They are going to mess it up! They are going to put the Pepper's V8 in front! That's it, the end. I hope Wendelingalin is not reading this and gets some ideas. I am hopefull for a rear-flat 8, with a larger wheelbase to accomodate the 2 extra cylinders (pushed into the cabin under the rear seats) so that the extra weight does not hang out the tail, and an all aluminum body and chassis for weight savings. Back to reality, got to get my car soon or my mind is going to keep slipping.

If that is true, then I imagine the resale value of the 996 will either stabilize or go up because a front engine v-8 is not a true 911, its a 928!!! Bobby

if porsches start having front engines again, i'll just shop someplace else. a rear engine porsche is the only true porsche to me.

But it's supposed to be a whole new model line a little bit like the 928. According to denials by Porsche the 911 will NOT get a V8, and certainly wouldn't become a front engined car. WW would have to be on crack to do that!
