(I had just changed from an aftermarket Ruf exhaust) It has since grown on me but I still find it a bit too loud in the morning.

Suggestion

Another downside IMO is the weight and complexity, I dread having to replace a muffler someday.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I picked up the car after having the PSE installed (w/o all the wiring, etc). I've driven the car about 20 miles with it in place, back roads, etc. in upstate NY, temp of 13 degrees F. Prior to today, I've had the straight pipes the whole time I've had the car (1 month) except for a couple days with the stock exhaust. clearly, this is better than stock...maybe it should've been stock. The sound isn't really very loud. in a downtown area with walls off of which the sound can echo, the car does have a nice rumble to it. It was louder with the window down than I expected. Under full acceleration, nice sound, not too loud, but enough to know there's something back there. Cruising around, it is very muted compared to straight pipes. In fact, as one would expect, it is extremely muted compared to the straight pipes. I think there will be days when I miss the absolute rawness of the straight pipes. However most of the time, I think I'll appreciate the in between sound. I was hoping that the PSE would be a nice sound level between the straight pipes and the stock exhaust. I think the PSE is more toward stock than toward the pipes. If the stock is a 1, straight pipes 10, then this might be a 4. I think I'd prefer a 6 if there's something like that out there. I'll try to get better used to this PSE, but I really liked the straight pipes. Aside from sound, I do feel like I gave away some ponies, but that's to be expected. Anyway, I like the PSE and I think it'll grow on me more...

Stand behind the car and let someone drive it away from you. You'll love it!

will do. i think i was just a bit spoiled by the mufflerless life...

Originally posted by BostonMarkC Stand behind the car and let someone drive it away from you. You'll love it! Ok I tried that. The sound was great, but I have not seen the car for 45 minutes. I don't think that guy is coming back. I'm calling the police if he's not back in another 45 minutes.

POST 5Original post

The PSE will get a little louder as time goes on. I have about ~3K miles on mine and I notice the difference. I think it is a good compromise. One of the features is that it is louder when cold. This annoys the neighbors early in the morning...I wish it was louder when warm! But overall, I think a reasonable balance of character and civility.

POST 6Original post

Oooops, sorry I'll bring it back. The PSE sounded too good. My Bad.

POST 7Original post

I have had PSE (3.4) for a while and it's a good exhaust, a raspy sound with zero resonance. But I found it very loud when first installed, especially in the morning , frankly I was a little disappointed. (I had just changed from an aftermarket Ruf exhaust) It has since grown on me but I still find it a bit too loud in the morning. Another downside IMO is the weight and complexity, I dread having to replace a muffler someday. I recently helped a buddy install the 3.6 version on his C4S and it sounds really good, very throaty and a lot louder at idle. As a matter of fact you could hardly hear my car idling next to his.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah, i'm on day 2 and its already getting louder. To me, its improving

POST 9Original post

You guys are killing me, this is my next purchase. Hopefully I'll get it before Rennsport (Daytona)!! Did you guys have it installed by the dealer, how much, do they give in break if you bought the car from them? Thanks!

POST 10Original post

That's nothing. Mine is in the garage still in the box. I was hoping for significant improvement in sound over stock. Anyone else want to chime in about their PSE experience?

POST 11Original post

I had PSE on my '02 C2, and now on my '04 C2, and absolutely love it. Got only mufflers installed at an independent Porsche shop for $100. The electronic & vacuum stuff for the switch are very time consuming and expensive (about another $1,000) to install, and a total waste, since I'd never consider turning it off. The sound is intoxicating--I hardly ever listen to the stereo! If you keep the RPMs below 3,000, it not going to bother your neighbors, and it has a wonderful howl at higher RPMs. It is by far the best option I've ever had in any car I've owned. I wouldn't even consider having a Porsche without it. Definitely a significant improvement over stock.

POST 12Original post

I've posted several times regarding the PSE and my experience. I've also posted about it getting louder as it gets on in mileage. Consensus at that time was that the oncoming colder weather made it "seem" like it was louder. Nice to know other people are finding out that it "really" gets louder. Can hardly wait for the sprinhg thaw.
