You have to remove the console - or part remove it - to access the switch...handy as I was changing the centre console for a colour coded one at the same time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there any way to get an audible indication that the car is successfully locked? I don't mean the horn honk when something is open, but a noise to say "I'm locked". A few times I've come back to my car to find it unlocked because I was a little too far away when I pressed the remote, and as I'm walking away I don't notice the indicators not flashing. I would register the lack of a "chirp".

POST 2Original post

leave your rear center console storage lid open.

POST 3Original post

Or find the DIY of how to disable the contact on the rear console. Do a search. I thought I wanted this until I did the sound test....didn't work for my ears?

POST 4Original post

1) This has been asked / answered a few times. Try the advanced search function. 2) Do the sidemarker flash mod so that you can see your car "blink" from the front. 3) Do the range mod for your car. 4) Just be diligent in looking at your car when you hit the lock button. 2-4 will get the job done most of the time. And #1 will always work -td

POST 5Original post

I just enable my lock button a second time quickly after the first time to lock it and that gives me an audible "chirp" that let's me know.

POST 6Original post

That's what I've been doing the whole time on my 2001 Cab too. I'm suprised no one noticed. The little alarm horn beeps and the turn signals stay lit for ~3 seconds.

POST 7Original post

The hitting the key fob twice disbles the interior IR alarm...Just FYI.

POST 8Original post

I had my stereo replaced and the installer did not disconnect the wire that senses if the radio has been stolen so now my alarm chirps when I lock the car. Some have reported random alarm behavior from this "mod" but my has behaved normally for several months and is fully functional.

POST 9Original post

i switched out my stereo as well...and now my car chirps.... i like it....

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The problem with leaving the console open or removing the radio ani-theft wire is that the "chirp" or short beep on the horn is actually the alarm system telling you "somethings wrong". This is definitely not what I want. The double click is also disabling some of the system, so isn't what I'm looking for either. And I didn't find anything else using advanced search I'm afraid! So I'm afraid the question still stands. Thanks for the suggestions to date though.

POST 11Original post

Yeah, I suspect a lot of us do the 'walk back to the car to make sure it Really is locked' thing. I tend to do it twice.

POST 12Original post

now when i walk away from my car.... i just listen for the chirp then i continue walking....

POST 13Original post

The "Smart Top" people enabled the chirp for the 997 within their interface. They have not done this for the 996. I asked them for it and was told that it would not be available. The 996 must have some sort of limitation that we don't understand. Their web site: https://www.wilhelmy-it.de/sms/shop/...tegories&cat=1 I really can't understand why someone hasn't figured this out, or devised some creative way to implement it. I believe they'd sell thousands of them if they were "plug n play" like the Smart Top product. My 2.

POST 14Original post

I really need to get around to doing the range extension mod. But oh how I am lazy this winter. Plus, this notion of having to cut exact lengths makes me nervous.

POST 15Original post

POST 16Original post

If you want the horn to beep when you lock the car you can do this (I copied this from someone else's post). I did it and it works great! The advice from my Porsche Tech mate was to modify the microswitch for the centre console storage thingy so the car sees it as being open, when it's not. To do this you have to either bend the thin metal actuating arm out of the way, or cut it off completely - what I did. If you unplug it, the car is smart enough to think it's a broken sensor and ignore it...giving no bleep/honk. By leaving the switch plugged into the loom, the car thinks the switch is there and working OK, but the lid of the storage bin is open. Even when it isn't. This works on my car...and gives a honk from the horn about 4 seconds after remotely locking with the key. You have to remove the console - or part remove it - to access the switch...handy as I was changing the centre console for a colour coded one at the same time. According to the Porsche Tech, this method has no adverse effects on the alarm operation, other than not letting you know if something else is not closed properly.

POST 17Original post

nice ... an exotic sports car that can't even chirp ... bah!

POST 18Original post

As has been noted earlier, this disables the interior motion sensor of the alarm as well. Test it. Roll down your windows, lock your car with the remote from the outside, and then stick your arm in the window and wave it around and see if the alarm goes off. Every day - on another note, got any good pics of your car showing off the wheels? I am considering the RS-GT as well.

POST 19Original post

I'd like a more mellow tone or something - not an alarm chirp. Just something that I can hear so I don't have to stare at a sometimes difficult to see tail light indicator. The range of the key radio is only about 20 feet on my key. I'll admit that it's a bit inconvenient to have to stare at the car just to see if I have successfully actuated the locks and alarm. Deactivating the center console lid switch isn't really a good fix in my view. Like someone else mentioned, it is only chirping to tell you that something isn't closed properly - like maybe the passenger door - that's no solution, it's just a temporary workaround. Maybe someone can get a little piezo and make some kind of aftermarket kit that does what I think everyone would like - an unobtrusive beep or tone to let you know that you locked up the car without that annoying alarm chirp. I don't know why, but I find those alarm chirp sounds very annoying - I need a different tone.

POST 20Original post

I have a brilliant idea. One could attach a little 'whistler' to the turn signal wiring. That way, when the car's alarm is armed, you'll hear a little tweet when the turn signal circuit is activated. (N.B. - you'd probably also hear this little chirping every time your are changing lanes or turning, so be forewarned)

POST 21Original post

That is exactly what I was going to suggest. If you MUST have an audible confirmation...you can have any qualified installer, install a PIEZO or PEZO that can beep or chirp for you. Very easy install.

POST 22Original post

you can use any of these buzzers. http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bi...5/Buzzers.html the trick would be to find the relay that flickers the lights when the alarm is armed. once you find that relay just wire a cable from the relay to the buzzer. got FSM for you car?

POST 23Original post

Actually my alarm still works - just tested it out and blew out my eardrums in my garage. The sound that the horn makes when locking the car is pretty muted, not like an alarm or even a normal honking sound, just a very quick little beep. Jerler - I love the RS-GT's. Fantastic wheel with a very natural look on these cars!
