Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
These are the GENI run and are VERY expensive to replace (don't even ask).
Leading evidence: 'Replace (don't even ask)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace (don't even ask)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Most will be 04's since that is really the only run they had.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have never had the pleasure of Porsche ownership, but would love to get into a GT3. Can you guys help? I plan to autocross the car, but probably not track it. It also will be driven to work a bunch. Here's where I'm clueless:
1) What autox options am I looking for? I assume those special brake disks, but anything else?
2) Is there a year I should avoid? It's been made since 03, right? (See how friggin clueless I am)
3) How much should I expect to pay?
4) Can anyone with experience autoxing tell me what I should do to the car? I assume change the toe and camber front and back, can I do this myself? Any good starting settings? I'm an experienced autoxer, so I will get extra wheels and R compounds right away.
Lastly, I want this to be SS eligible, so I guess that's a 996, right? Is the 997 really a lot better (in ASP)?
Thanks so much! My wife would be thrilled if I got a comfy autoxer.
You might want to post this on the 996 GT2/GT3 Forum. On the left side of your screen click on
Water Cooled
then click on
996 GT2/GT3
.
While some of the GT3 guys hang out here (996 Forum) occasionally, most of the guys that frequent the GT3 Forum OWN a GT3. They would be able to answer your GT3 questions much more thoroughly that most of us here could answer them.
BTW - Welcome to Rennlist.
Nobody is clueless they just need some enlightenment.
This is NOT the best choice for an auto-X car. You can auto-X with it but there are much better cars for this purpose. This cars lives between 6-8.2K rpm on the track and in the twisties. That is where it accels. Brakes are phneomenal on the car. Change out the fluid to a race fluid add some RS19/29/14's etc and you are set
No such thing as a year to avoid. They are abosolutely NOTHING like the base 996. The only thing they share is the aesthetics. The motor is a TRUE dry sump GT1 motor. Nothing even close or shared in the 996 line. They were ONLY made in 04 and 05. Most will be 04's since that is really the only run they had. The sold to the leftover demand in 05 with a very short release of something like 100 more cars. One is not better than the other. Same car.
Right now? Somewhere between 70-85 depending on the condition, miles, history, etc.
Options don't really command a premium since most weren't optioned heavily. Think track car! Less is more.
The only thing you do NOT want if you are going to track it is the PCCB brakes. These are the GENI run and are VERY expensive to replace (don't even ask).
Proper alignment for ANY application in this car is crucial....street, track, auto-X. As for tires, start on street tires for a while and LEARN the car. it is a handful and MIUST be respected or it will bite you in the ***!
Very welcome. By the way I have no idea what you mean by SS eligible.
Dell, No reason IMHO that the GT3 can't be an awesome AX car. It's high reving nature certainly doesn't preclude this. For example the Honda S2000 is a very high reving car and a very good autocrosser.
SS refers to the SCCA autocross class. I believe as long as the original poster keeps the car stock, the GT3 is classified in SS.
Seriously dude, did you think I didn't know that. There is ALOT you can get RoW, but you CANNOT buy it here hence the statement that they were NOT made any other model years other than 04 and 05. Isn't he shopping for a GT3 here in the states???
By the way, wikipedia isn't what you should be citing to prove a point.
Ray...totally agree. My statement was that is isn't the "best" auto-x car. Still can be a great one, but just the best weapon to choose. ps. I made sure to edit my post to mimic my response to him over on the GT3 board with regards to that.
Dell, don't be sniveling. I just said that your statement: "They were ONLY made in 04 and 05." was wrong as they were made but just not sold in North America. However, this doesn't mean that they are not around in the US on the used car market. If you know that the EUR/USD rate was 40% lower in 2000 than it is today, then it doesn't need too much fantasy to imagine that there were some imports done to the US like the shown car in Florida.
I think your post is very informative 1+
BTW, there's nothing wrong with citing wikipedia if the info there is correct. In a current UK 911 magazine there's a buyers guide for the Mk1 and Mk2 GT3 but wikipedia was just more convenient to quote.
