I know the "aero" was not factory installed but was dealer installed when new as I have the original invoice that itemized the dealer installed options.

You can check the side skirts as well for glass or poly material.

I first posted here back in October (had been lurking since August '06 when I bought my first Pcar.) Have been lurking since gaining info, doing some minor stuff to the car (learned to clean MAF for CEL problem - no more problem).

Also, any recommendations on options if I decide to change the nose ?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyway, here's the issue. I love this car BUT for the 66K miles. If the car was base, I would definitely move on to a '01-'03 - possibly CAB or C4S.
But this car is in great shape but for a few minor scratches (no dings), no noises, very tight and has lots of options -both factory and aftermarket.
Before I spend some $ on new rims, audio and possibly a new nose, should I sell it for basically what I paid and get a lower mile version ?
Here's some pics and option list of what I have (Can anyone identify the nose ?):
Aero package w/ winglets and rear window visor, colored bumperettes
Fabspeed Exhaust and Cold Air Intake w/ Schnell (?) air filter
Short throw shifter
Yellow Calipers
Rear Wiper removed
Metallic paint, clear markers all around
Supple leather throughout
3 spoke wheel (notice yellow stitching to match yellow calipers)
HK Audio w/ NAV and Digital Sound Package - not thrilled -
Aluminum brake handle, shifter and pedals
18" Turbo Look rims
Pwr/Mem seats w/ Lumbar
(Sorry for the dealer pics, can't figure out how to reduce the size of my pics to upload.)
Ramp...I would propose becoming a Rennlist Member and post if for sale. I would give myself a time period on how long I would be willing to wait before committing more funds. If the car sells, great then your shopping for a lower mileage 996.
I guess it comes down to the time your willing to wait. A good source is the CPA Hershey meet which is coming up. Drive up there and post a FS sign on your car, plenty of enthusiast looking for 996's. good luck
BTW..there is nothing wrong with 66K on a 996 as long as it properly maintained she should give you many years of enjoyment.
Don't know what brand that bumper cover is.
66k is nothing to worry about. That is a beautiful car. Upgrade wheels and it will seem like a different car visually. There is something to be said for "knowing" you have a mechanically solid car from experience. Getting another one always has some degree of uncertanty.
Thanks for the input. The mileage is the only thing really bothering me. I'm just concerned that if I stat hitting 70k plus the value will drop significantly locking me into this car for the long haul (without taking a hit). Not really worried about selling it now as I get offers from people on the street - the owner of an Inn in Newport RI where my wife and I recently stayed offered me $2k more than I paid. I told him I'd call him when/if I ever sell.
Any thoughts at where values realy drop as a ratio to miles ?
he offered you 2k more than you paid for it. You should sit down and have a drink
You should have sold it right then and there.
If you are so worried about high miles why did you buy it with high miles.
How much did you drive it in 7 months
You have already lost money with this car. Sell it if you want something different and lie to the wife as to why.
Still trying to get an an identification on my nose ? and, any suggestions if I wanted to switch it out - need to get about 1/2"-1" more clearance for my driveway.
M3kila - Is the only difference between Aero and fiber aftermarket that Aero was factory. I know the "aero" was not factory installed but was dealer installed when new as I have the original invoice that itemized the dealer installed options.
Evansaero - The offer came soon after I bought the car, in fact on the 1st road trip so I was not even thinking of selling. I bought the car b/c (1) I believe I got a decent deal on it, got a 1 yr extended with it, and was looking for an entry vehicle to 1st determine if a 996 was something I wanted to have long term. If I do sell I will be re-buying for the long term. Part of the rationale was/is, buy it, drive it, if love it, keep it or sell and upgrade - thus the current decision to either keep or upgrade, i.e., a 996 or 997 is in the long term plan.
Not sure why you say "You have already lost money with this car." ?? Are you referring to the $2k ?
As to the "wife", I consider myself very lucky. Whenever I bring home a new car, the response is simply, "enjoy it, you deserve it."
Yes your are very lucky to have a wife like that
I bought my wife a mini toy turbo porsche to put on her office desk to remind her every day of what she's working so hard for
As far as money lost, unless you own the dealership or stole the car you will never get back what you put into it... Sorry but its true
No issue. Leaning more and more to keeping the car, making a few changes, and enjoying it for awhile - nothing precludes another purchase (in addition).
Any suggestions on rims ? I like the ForgeLine VR3P's (in the rim post), but $4k is more than what I was thinking for that change. Also, any recommendations on options if I decide to change the nose ? Websites to check out ? There's not much in the way of retail establishments up here.
I think it looks great, even with aftermarket parts. Great color.
Don't worry about the mileage. We finally got some nice weather here, so I took the car for a run. I'm less than 900 miles from hitting 80K.
Enjoy the car!
You have a base nose with add on spoilers at the bottom. They are glass pieces. You can check the side skirts as well for glass or poly material. The aero nose looks very different from what you have. I would just leave it alone, it looks nice.
Thanks - I like it as well but bottom out coming into the new driveway and chipped a 3" piece of fiber of the front lip. Was thinking of seeing if I could mount some steel plates under - rather scrape that.
Anyone know how to resize images so I can upload a more recent pic ?
If you do not have any photo shop type software, you can use MS Paint or MS Office Picture Manager (easier) if you have it. I have not used it, but you can also try resize2mail dot com as well. Good Luck.
