I have over filled the tank before and it sprayed back at me, also it was dripping out of the filler tube.

I will check the fuse and the various ways of filling the car up and hopefully that works.

If the gas fill continues to be a problem even with other gas stations you may want to check fuse E6.

I was wondering whenever I fill the car up with gas the pump will click off right away and I have to hold the handle down to keep it filling.

if you have some auto mechanical inclination, crawl underneath the car and do some familiarization; inspect for leaks around the engine case, and associated hoses.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone, I am a new member here. I personally don't have a porsche but I take care of my parents 2003 996. Hopefully it will be mine soon since it just sits and does not get driven. It only has about 15000 miles. I was wondering whenever I fill the car up with gas the pump will click off right away and I have to hold the handle down to keep it filling. Any thoughts?
Welcome, kartboy. make sure the car is getting the proper maintenance while it's in your parents possession. Read up as much as you can to educate yourself on what it takes to own, drive and maintain a Pcar. You'll appreciate the rich history.
The Pcar has a small tank; start off filling slowly to allow for the vapors and back pressure to escape out of the tank. don't attempt to add more past the final full indicator.. you'll just end up spilling some outside the filler neck and possibly onto the paint. Ask me how I know.
Even if it's your parents' car, post a pic. And tell your dad about Rennlist.
welcome. post a picture please. make sure maintenence is kept up to date. make sure your parents clearly understand the need for you to take it out weekly (at least), and hit red line a couple of times!!
as far as fullups go, i am not sure what you mean about hold the handle down. my car likes to fill medium to fast, but always stop filling at first shut off.
What I meant by holding the handle down was that it would click off automatically and every time I put it back to auto it would click back off. So I just have to manually pump. I will try holding it upside down next time. I always go to the same chevron so I will try somewhere else. I have over filled the tank before and it sprayed back at me, also it was dripping out of the filler tube. It is a major PITA. The car has had all maintenance done and it running great right now. After reading the forums I am getting nervous about the whole IMS and RMS issues. I really don't know what I should do. I only have one picture of the car at the moment, it is my avatar. I am currently in college so I am far away from the car. I get my long over due driving time during thanks giving.
Nice ride! Do your parents a favor and drive it often, or if the RMS, IMS, or whatever is causing stress in your life just let us know. We are kind people and I am sure that one of us would take that car off of your hands so you can sleep at night.
Kartboy, does your dad( or mom) do any minor fixes/maintenance on the car or do they just drop it off at the shop? if you have some auto mechanical inclination, crawl underneath the car and do some familiarization; inspect for leaks around the engine case, and associated hoses. If you do inherit this vehicle, at least you know what you're getting into. Look into the LN engineering IMS retrofit and /or the IMS Guardian if you think it might suit you. Nice car btw. Just drove thru and visited Point Vincente a couple months ago, great weather!!
Well they just drop it off to get fixed. I want to work on it but I am nervous to start messing with it. I have a way to get access to a full car lift so I want to lift it and see what is under the car. Point Vincente is a very nice place. I put the coffee on the car because I sent the picture to a friend who loves Porsches and coffee. I keep everything that can damage the car out of it, including some people. Barn a Bugeye is a pretty nice car. Please tell me you didn't sell it. When I get back for Thanks Giving I am going to inspect the car and talk to our mechanic and see what he has to say about the bearing and the seal. Everyone on here seems very nice, I have been on some other forums and they are savages haha.
Welcome kartboy, Nice Ride & it would be a good one to inherit. Always remember the Search feature is your friend, you can pretty much find anything & everything you want to know about your car. jmo
just remember, when you ask an ims/rms question on this board, we already own one of these cars. so you know our thoughts without asking. keep an eye on the engine/trans for a spot of oil. change oil regulary. drive the wheels off it.
Hey, welcome.
As far as filling, I often find if I don't get the nozzle all the way in it can cause the shut-off you describe.
I've never had to resort to turning it upside down.
If the gas fill continues to be a problem even with other gas stations you may want to check fuse E6. Mine blew and would not allow complete gas tank fill.
Barn I guess that is a good reason to get ride of the AH. I have been going through pages of posts. Maybe this isn't good, I now want to find a way to boost power and maybe upgrade a few cosmetic and interior pieces. Why do I have a feeling that my bank account is not going to be as high as I like? I now cant wait to get back to "my" car. I still have to find a way to convince them that it would be good to let me "borrow" it for a while. It sadly is not worth it to sell the car so might as well enjoy it. I will check the fuse and the various ways of filling the car up and hopefully that works.
The car already has the Porsche sports exhaust, I am planning on taking it. It is easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission. Sorry I am a noob give me time I will show my worth, so in typical noob fashion, Pete what is DE?
