Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seems the linkage has detached from the outside handle. Inside lever works. When I lift the outside handle the window does the normal drop. My question - Can you remove the outside handle assembly without removing the interior panel/airbag etc? It's a 99 996 cab.

POST 2Original post

No, you need to go in from the inside. Chances are the activating lever is broken.

POST 3Original post

I had the same thing happen. The linkage unsnapped on the inside. Unfortunately, you have to remove the side airbag, doorpanel, etc... to gain access. Even then, it is a pain to get it reattached. I cinched a zip tie around the snap-in mount so it won't happen again. There is an excellent write- up on Renntech about removing the panel and airbag. Be careful!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I figured as much but was wishing I did not have to remove the door panel. Thanks!

POST 6Original post

It's actually pretty easy. The only annoying part is removing the plastic sheet from the door frame. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive before you start peeling it. -shawn

POST 7Original post

I did it. The U-shaped retaining latch came lose. I started a thread about it. Helps if you have skinny girl hands like me to reach in.

POST 8Original post

That happened to a friend, except it broke on the inside. I helped, and was surprised that it wasn't that difficult. Good luck
