Suggestion

To ensure I never run the car's reservoir dry, I disconnect the bleeder after each caliper and refill the reservoir.

Suggestion

I've adopted the method of running the Motive bleeder "dry", which means I do not put brake fluid in the bleeder itself.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can someone tell me what the correct pressure is for our cars? I haven't used the bleeder in a while and I forgot the correct pressure to use.

POST 3Original post

Loren over at renntech.org has a great DIY write-up for brake/clutch bleeding.

Doh! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks for the suggestion.

POST 5Original post

Welcome! Loren's website is where I learned ALOT of my DIY stuff. Fantastic stuff over there.

Porsche factory service manual shows 1.5 bar, which is more than 20#.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 5564794

yeah, by 1.75psi... (14.5psi = 1bar) ... so why risk the extra 1.75psi? I pump mine to around 17psi.

POST 9Original post

Loren states no more than 19 psi, Porsche states 21.... Ive always done 20# and it has served me well... I always flush rather than just bleed.

POST 10Original post

Don't know if any different but on my air cooled, I would pump to about 14lbs.

POST 11Original post

The instructions right on the Motive bleeder say 20.

POST 12Original post

quick questions, I am bleeding right now and I see the pressure on my motive bleeder drop like 1-2 psi every minute, is that normal ? It is ok, I just pump it after each caliper but I wonder if you guys have steady pressure during the whole process, in which case I need to look around for the air leak. I looked for fluid leak, I can't find any.

POST 14Original post

A few comments: 1. The pressure should drop in the Motive bleeder as brake fluid gets pushed out of the system. I don't recall the rate at which my pressure drops, but 1-2 psi per minute doesn't sound unreasonable. 2. Running the bleeder at lower than 20 psi is not a problem and does not compromise the quality of the flush/bleed. All it will do is cause the flush/bleed to proceed a little bit slower. 3. I've adopted the method of running the Motive bleeder "dry", which means I do not put brake fluid in the bleeder itself. To ensure I never run the car's reservoir dry, I disconnect the bleeder after each caliper and refill the reservoir. This means I re-pump the Motive (to 15-20 psi, I'm not picky) after each caliper, but this means I don't worry at all about the small pressure loss during the bleeding process. And, I don't have to clean up the Motive when I'm done, a big plus in my book. Good luck.

POST 15Original post

thanks guys, all is well then it seems. I do also run it dry and add fluid after each caliper, small insurance price to pay for and this way pressure can be pumped up each time. pretty quick anyways.

POST 16Original post

Ditto on the dry method and using only 15psi or so; nice and methodical and reduces the mess. Now I just need to figure out incorporating the durametric so I can bleed the ABS pump too...
