Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I am using an Arc Audio 4150 for the components and Arc Audio 1000S for the subs.

Yep, using the Focal components in the dash and doors on my 1999 911 and a Pioneer Avic-D3 in the dash.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Firt time poster and first time owner of my new toy. Question. I like the idea of keeping the look stock for the stereo but I am not happy with the current stereo. I would like to at minimum add Xfm along with improving the sound and probably adding an MP3. I have not see too many replacement stereos that look like they belong on the 996 dash. I have CD holders below the stock stereo and an empty space below that for sunglasses, etc. So.... any suggestions on what others have done would be helpful. Thanks!
Welcome to the form and good luck with your new car. Most will tell you to do a search and this is true but you will have to search for Focal, double din, etc,,, You are embarking on a big job. The scope will change if you have the Hi-Fi package speakers in the doors and an amp in the trunk. You will need to trim new speakers to the existing speaker covers. Decipher wiring and routing new wires. Despite how bad this system is, it is a component system. I also observed that the ohm rating is different in the different components.
I have wanted to upgrade the system in my car for the last couple of years. I bit the bullet and pick up an Alpine head unit W/Ipod integration. Than I reached out to Rod @

. Rod is the owner and a real great guy. His is not the cheapest route but provides a plug and play system for our cars. As well as very high quality stuff.
I did the big Audison amp, the 3 JL sub enclosure as well as the Hertz 3 way speakers. He provides great documentation as well as all the connectors, wire and support you WILL NEED. As luck would have it this was a winter project for me and in the beginning of April I fractured my ankle. This required surgery and new hardware. I am now recovering and hope to wrap up this project soon.
Overall the project does not seem difficult. You just need to invest the time. It is not a one night after work task.
if u do a search, it will take literally several days to digest everything... and ultimately in the end, focal will stick right up front.... good luck it's well worth it...
I think Nakamichi's "look" like they belong in the dash, so long as you go amber. I had an Alpine w/ ipod in my Audi but I won't put one in my 996. Too "digital" looking...
Yep, using the Focal components in the dash and doors on my 1999 911 and a Pioneer Avic-D3 in the dash. The Pioneer has the adjustable lighting so you can match it to the rest of the car. It also has customizable backgrounds so you can create one just for your car (I used a Porsche background from

. For subs, I have a custom built box that sits on the shelf behind the rear seats and houses two 8" JL Audio subs. I am using an Arc Audio 4150 for the components and Arc Audio 1000S for the subs. Sounds great, although a little overpowering for such a small car...

P.S. Rod was my source for the Focals and install advice, highly recommended!
Thanks guys. This is great help. I tried to do a search on prior posts before I put this on but most of what I found was older so this helps. I will try the search again. I do not think I was doing something right. I will take a look at the sites mentioned above and look at Rod's site. Great place to start. NJ - fractured ankle? Hate when that happens. Jim
I am glad to see this info myself. I am planning a full custom install very soon to use all the equipment I already own.
Thanks for the good information.
Nah, I think I'll pass, 'cuz he did post one pic. Besides, some here think that it's not right to harass the "newbies" for pics. So I'll let the first line in my sig speak for itself!
You guys are funny...
Didn't mean to start a schit-storm over on that other thread..., I love pictures myself but couldn't seem to post one. Can anyone tell me how to add a signature line on the board??
Jim, I am in the Pittsburgh area and own a 2002 C2. I am also interested in upgrading the audio system while maintaining the stock look. I do not have the Bose system, but I do have speakers in the doors and a (small black) amp in the trunk. I you have someone local install your new system, I would be interested in who did it and how it went.
