Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

Saw it on the tube recently, good vid. Thanks for posting.

POST 4Original post

Lot of debate on this ad. Question of whether Porsche is selling its icon "out" in order to stay afloat; which it may be however if it sinks, no one gets to drive a Porsche. My disclaimer is that I'm shopping for car seats for the back. Several advertising trade magazines have made comments, one being particularly negative on this tactic.

POST 5Original post

I love the strategy. I do every single one of those things in my 911. It was the only true sportscar to be able to do all of those things, and well.

POST 6Original post

Call, How do you compare those "things" in your 911 vs. your Cayenne? Have to imagine it's easier picking up the kids, plus soccer equipment, plus cement in the Cayenne that's built to specifically do all those tasks. I know I'm comparing apples to herrings, but if I had a Cayenne (I have an SUV) I'd lug my stuff in it, drive it in the snow, and keep the 911 as my non-loaded 911 DD. I'm honestly asking because I'm curious.

POST 7Original post

Porsche was looking for actors for this ad in our local PCA region. A couple of our guys were used. Every once in awhile, Porsche makes an ad like this to remind you that the car is 'practical.'

POST 8Original post

Every once in awhile, Porsche makes an ad like this to remind you that the car is 'practical.' Well said.

POST 9Original post

Seen the ad as well, I think it gives people a great message on reliability of 911s and Porsche as whole. I think they used the 911 as it represents Porsche. Great Ad

POST 10Original post

I don't think it's a bad advertisement at all. I drive my C4S every day, rain or shine... even snow. It's very practical for a sports car. I don't think it's "selling out" either. More people would argue that Porsche already sold out the icon when it began producing the Cayenne, and then the Panamera.

POST 11Original post

I drive my stripped, caged, demufflered, racing seat c4s every day. Do the grocery shopping with it too! I think there's something inherently different about modern 911's vs the pre 993- models. To say that a lotus exige & a new 911 are in the same category doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

POST 12Original post

As do I; as mentioned in disclaimer, trying to get kid in back with seat, so except for snow (and it's a C4 so I could....) I'm three of those four "everyday" magic items, every day.

POST 13Original post

I think it's a fabulous positioning statement... A supercar for everyday use... Especially the hot mom picking up the kids in a 997 from school.... That's a statement and half!

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 8495003

My opinion: It may be "easier" to do all the items shown in a Cayenne, but I do all of those things in my 996 AND do track events... No need for an SUV in the driveway at great expense, lousy gas mileage, more maintenance, and more insurance. I got rid of my SUV a year ago. Did not replace it. My Honda Civic does the "ugly" jobs that I choose not to do in the 996. 99% of the stuff folks claim they need an SUV for is totally unnecessary. Towing a boat, or a camper, or a track car is a good excuse for an SUV. I'm currently building a patio with waterfall at my house and everything fits in either the Honda or the Porsche. '99 996 C2 has enough trunk space for 6 bags of fertilizer without having to move the spare tire. And it's not like I'm driving across the state to get them home. Just a few blocks. Cinder blocks, bricks, rocks, pumps, even plants. Plastic drop cloth keeps it clean in there. Folding card table and three boxes of stuff fit in the back when I'm headed to a swap meet. Plus two or three more boxes in the trunk. Try any of THAT in your Nissan 350Z! LOL!

POST 16Original post

I've hauled firewood, filled the car up at Home Depot and Costco, gone on trips and dates ... and it's my DD. Dream car! Works for me.

POST 17Original post

its my fav commercial, closely followed by the Heinekin beer mens walk-in closet freezer

POST 18Original post

I love this ad, because it does sum up a lot about "the other side" of owning a Porsche sports car, such as a 911. I like this ad. In the "dream world" of Porsche ownership, the commute is from one's villa in Europe to a bank in Zurich; and the only slim passengers that ever fit in the backseat are supermodels with short skirts. However, in the *real* world, the people that buy Porsche 911s and Coxsters do need to drive to work in a snowstorm, pick up their kids at school, and get groceries. However - what a way to turn the humdrum into an experience you look forward to every time you turn that key! In my case, I would never have been allowed by my wife to make the 911 my DD had it not been for those two stunted seats in the back - that my kids love to ride in. I also think this ad is masterful because it shows women driving 911s and other Porsche sports cars (especially that delicious milf in the turbo). The reality is that although we all love and worship the 911, the "second line" are the real heroes that keep our storied car in production. Had it not been for the 914, Porsche might have gone under, same story with the 924, the 968, etc. etc. The more people buy Coxsters and Caymans or any Porsche car, the better for us.

My wife uses my 996 cab as school bus at fine days on summer. Nice cool morning breeze and the strong afternoon sun make driving cab to and from school a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Not to mention all those school kids running along the car shouting 'Porsch, porsch, porsch'. Some would come, touched the car and said 'David, I touched your Porsch'.

POST 20Original post

I guess showing grandma in germany braking and cussing at auslanders on the autobahn would be a bit too much for american mentality to handle. I'm sure the grandma's making runs to see the kids or shopping could identify and check back in at the dealers for a new car again. It's a nice car. It doesn't need to be sold as a noisy car looking like a muscle car of days gone by.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 8495003

Peter, The PIG is my wife's (NOT my wife is a pig). With the 911, I can do the majority of my needed daily tasks, outside of going to Lowes to haul lumber. I had looked at both a SL and a vette before this purchase, and with the 2 rear "seats", it makes the car extremely livable, especially with my daughter. But, in the 2% of the situations where I need something larger, the PIG gets the duty!

POST 22Original post

Extremely reasonable. I admit that when I had a 944 I considered for a split second my surfboard rack on the roof, then realized that one strong wind and I would be airborne. No interest in scratching the roof paint on the 996 (or the 944, for that matter), so the SUV is for the gear. Heh, Spender, exactly. Unless.... is the equivalent of skinny women in the backseat? I doubt it. Although Susan Sarandon is now, what, 60-plus?

POST 23Original post

I love it. All about doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way. I have done all of these things also. And watch carefully, everyone that gets into a Porsche smiles. Just like real life. Brian

POST 24Original post

hmmm gonna take a 3-4 week extended trip with the 996. Me, the wife and our 7 & 4 year old boys. Im thinking it will be a memorable experience.

POST 25Original post

Some times I think people forget a pcar is still a car. It was built to be used and enjoyed. It was not built to be worshiped. It is not a god (notice small g). My 996 is the most enjoyable car I've ever owned and it is still practical. I think that is the point of Porsche's ad is the cars are ment to be used as a car. I also think it is silly to think any company can make one product that is not mass produced (911) and stay in business. I would guess Porsche needs the other lines to stay in business or profitable and as long as they still make the 911 and continue to improve it i'm all for the other cars. I do not look down on any of the other models. I think the boxster is a great car. I just never dreamed about a boxster all night or lusted after one for years. For me it has always been a 911!

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
