But, on the other hand, I'm surprised at how much the rockers changed the look of the car!

But, I think I was just trying to convey that I was amazed at how much the (okay, I'll use the term) side skirts changed the look of the car (to me).

I have to say I highly recommend Cecil and Bodystyle.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gotcha! Bwaaahahahahah! Hahahahahah....
Sigh.
Hahahahahahahahaha!
After I have some fun, I'll retitle this to something like "Aerokit installed (pics)" but I just couldn't resist.
Some of you may remember (maybe just Dell?) that I've been ever so slowly attempting to mod my car again. This time with a new nose and rockers. I'll admit although I'm happy with it, I'm a bit underwhelmed by the nose. But, on the other hand, I'm surprised at how much the rockers changed the look of the car! I just love 'em!
Here's a before and after pic and one side pic.
Cheers!
Thats a beauty! Cheers!
How come you went with the front bumper but not the rear wing? Aren't they supposed to go together, to match the resulting down force? I have the side skirts and rear bumper winglets. I was thinking of adding the Aerokit I wing, but I was told I should always do the front bumper and rearwing together.
Hi,
I'm sure I'm skipping the real details but the concensus on the board was that the wing in back was not really necessary with that heavy a$$ engine back there. And, I have a cab and I don't know how that taco wing would work. The wing also cost $$$. I didn't go with the "stick-on" rear fender (just behind the rear wheels) parts either. I didn't like the "stick-on" look.
Thanks for the compliments though! Give me a wave if you see me cruisin 280! Unless I'm locked to the steering wheel, I WAVE!
You can install the front without adding the rear spoiler, but you should NOT install the rear spoiler without adding the front bumper.
The rear spoiler increases the down force enough that if you don't "counter balance" the front down force, the front will feel even lighter than stock car without the Areo kit.
I'm usually cruising (often crawling) on 680 or 101. I wave or flash my lights when I see another p-car, but this often takes the other person by surprise
.
Sorry, couldn't resist! I've begun to feel this board has lost a bit of the old sense of humor and thought this might help cheer up someone's day.
Me at work:
I'll be looking for you! Although I must admit your Boxster brethren have soured me a bit in their lack of response. Whenever my wife is in the car and I don't get a wave back, I'm sure to get a "You dork!" from her.
[I jest...] The only ones worse than the Boxster drivers are those stuck up 993 drivers.
Joe - your car looks great! What's not to like about the new front bumper? Also, the side skirts (a.k.a. "rocker panels" for those that are insecure about their masculinity)
look great! Good job!
Hi Tim,
First off, thanks for the compliments!
Well, I do like the new front bumper. But, I think I was just trying to convey that I was amazed at how much the (okay, I'll use the term) side skirts changed the look of the car (to me). I always felt my 996 looked a little weak on the sides where the body just dives under the car and the new side skirts just lit it up for me!
One thing I don't like about the front bumper (and I knew this going in...) is that it's lower to the ground than the old one. Thank God I got the chin spoiler!
Okay, a laugh at my expense, guess what's the first thing I did as I left the body shop... Think "going down a driveway exit". I could see the body guy wince in my rear view mirror as the chin scraped on the exit.
Cheers!
Yeah, you got me with that title...I was thinking 'another posters about to get slammed by the rennlist crew'...lol.
Sharp looking car. Good choice on the MKI kit. Don't worry, the days of scraping the chin is not over yet.
Thanks vove!
Hauled the kids into school this morning and no PM pickup for me (wife's doing that) so I couldn't resist a trip home over lunch to switch cars. Ahhhhh, it's a beautiful day in CA!
Hi Joe, looks real nice! I have a similar car and live in ths same area.. would like to know how much you spent on it and where you have it installed. Thx!
Steven
dude, everytime i see a Porsche in the freeway, it always put a grin on my face coz' it does stand out...and yes, some of them they don't even wave back or flash their light coz' for them it's only a Boxster and tha's sad
kinda like in high school...you got the freshman coming in and the seniors will pick on them
Hi Steven,
Here's the breakdown:
Rockers: $650 (Bwine Porsche incl shipping)
Bumper: $1100 (Dart Auto, Colorado? incl shipping)
Prep, paint and install: $1500 (Bodystyle on Brokaw in SJ)
I suggest shopping around and being patient for deals on the parts. Prices can (and will) vary wildly. For instance, I found the rockers easily available for $950 and the bumper for as much as $2600!!! It was sort of a pain to have the parts sitting around my house (my wife complained a lot about the bumper in our dining room...) but when I told her how much I was saving, that staved off further complaining.
I have to say I highly recommend Cecil and Bodystyle. He's worked on my E55 in addition to my 911 and I'm very happy with the results. You'll find several Porsches in his garage if you visit. Chat with Ceasar for a while too, he's cool and has one bitchin 911!
I've used EMC in Fremont in the past. They come very highly recommended and I will say that the work was good but, in all fairness, I felt like I could have been treated better than I was.
Next, I think I'm going to add a little bling to my wheels...
Good luck!
Yah, it's sad, the passing of "the flash/wave". I've always been into cars but I remember when a co-worker of mine got me hooked on P-cars - I wasn't even driving a p-car at the time and I noticed more waves/flashes between p-car drivers than I get myself in my 911 today!!!
Grrrrrr, I had to haul the kids in again today... Is it lunch yet?!?!?

Hey, is there a moderator (or a more clued-in rennlister?) reading this thread?
The joke was funny but I'd like to change the Thread title to:
"Aero kit installed (pics)"
to be a bit more helpful to other listers but when I attempt to "Edit Thread" I get an error saying I don't have this permission?
Thanks for any help!
