Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all,
I'm the proud owner of a 2003 996 c4 with a front diff that's wearing out. I spotted a leak from the front diff while changing my oil and brought it in. It looks like Porsche replaces the part rather than repairing it and it's a bit pricey so I figured I'd look around for a salvage.
I called some nearby salvage yards, but no joy. I figured I'd give eBay a shot, but I'm having problems figuring out which of the similar looking cardan shafts fits the vehicle. The dealership says the part needed is 996 349 010 CX.
But when I look at ebay listings, that part number doesn't appear anywhere to be found:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-4S-C4-A...124e45&vxp=mtr
I'm pretty new to the world of Porsche and was never really the best of mechanics in the first place, so I'd appreciate any and all guidance!
Many thanks.
Interesting - never knew that folks converted to RWD. Why do that instead of just get a regular C2?
Is there anything to the conversion besides just putting in a plan ol' front axle?
I did the conversion because I wanted a widebody car and they only come with AWD (except for the GT2, which I can't afford anyway).
The conversion is actually quite simple. If you do a search for "RWD conversion" you should find the thread I made about how to do it. Total time for removal is about two and a half hours.
I replaced the front dif in my 03 C4S with a unit from here, Rennlist, check the turbo forum here, many of them do the delete. I paid $400 for one with 30k miles on it. I then replaced the bad bearing in my old dif for $30, and sold it on eBay for $900.
With the re-formulation resulting in an always flaccid VC fluid in the 99 and on you really don't have any substantive FWD capability.
Gut the Diff'l and you'll NEVER notice the difference.
I'm installing a LS3 Corvette motor in my car, we changed the rear ring and pinion. There is no ring and pinion options for the front diff, so I took it out.
The AWD front axles are different, so you can't get axle stubs to fit the wide body car. I cut the CV joints apart and made stubs out of the existing axles.
