Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone.
Newbe 02 996 cab owner here. I had a porsche dealer do a ppi before I bought the car. They found some small issues that I have fixed thanks to this forum.
The last thing I have left to fix is the backup switch on the transmission. I have read through the post from renntech, ordered the switch and thought it would be very easy.

But I cant find the switch. The pics that he posts are great, but too close for me to see the exact area under the car to start searching. I know that is is on the tranny towards the front of the car, but does anyone know what side to look at? Drivers or Pax side? I feel like an idiot. I have the car on jackstands now while I am getting the mkII muffler mod. I would like to get this done before I put the exhaust back on. I know the pics in the link above are from a 99. I believe they use the same 6 speed transmission. Is it possible that the 02 is different?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all on this forum for a great source of information.

Passenger side, about 6" inboard and 2" rearward of where the forward transmission mount attaches to the chassis. If you aren't looking from the rear of the car forward, you'll have to remove the under tray to see the switch:
Johnnyq, adding to Doug's comment, if you remove the rear undertray, you should be able to feel (if not see) the switch on the transmission while lying on your back. It's easily accessible from underneath the passenger side once the rear undertray has been removed. As shown in the pic, it has a wire connector coming off it, so you can't miss it. Very easy DIY, so good luck!
