Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm somewhat of an ignoramus when it comes to auto mechanic stuff. I get the theory in most cases, but I have very limited hands-on experience. So please be gentle! =) I've had my car for a little over one year now, and it is approaching 25k miles total (of which I have put on 15k). It is my daily driver and I also run 12-14 autocross events per year where I am competitive (in the sense that I'm not out for a Sunday drive, I'm pushing the car to its limits). I expect I will need to replace my brake pads sometime in the next 12 months. I have never had my brakes disappoint me. I've heard some say that OEM brakes may struggle at the big track, where you are doing continuous lapping, and start to fade. I do not go to big tracks, don't do continuous lapping, and have never had my brakes behave differently across the 12-16 autocross runs I get in a day. I try hard to keep my car well detailed, and rarely let anyone else do the washing, claying, polishing, sealing, waxing. Wheels are my nemesis, brake dust is annoying and hard to clean. I am currently using OEM brakes (completely stock from original delivery). If it is relevant, I have black calipers, and my car is a 2003 996 C2. Since this is my daily driver, I do not want brakes that are obnoxiously loud or squeeky. So... What are my options for brakes? Of course I can go with OEM, and would expect nothing to change. But what are the other options? I've heard of ceramic brakes (PCCBs?), alternative pads, alternative rotors, etc., but I'm not sure of the pros and cons of the various technologies and brands. Goals I would have, in order of prioirty, include: - braking performance at least as good as my current OEM brakes - low (is zero possible?) brake dust/grime - low noise Any guidance would be appreciated!
