Suggestion

Frankly, the car spends most of its time in quiet mode and I keep the loud setting for when I am in the mood for it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had my dealer install the PSE on my 01 996 3.4L and wow, what a sound! But as an added bonus, when the switch is closed, it sounds like the 3.6L engine on the newer models, which I always thought was an improvement over the sound of the 3.4L engine. The best of both worlds

POST 2Original post

Why would you want to sound like the 3.6 quiet? I don't see that as an added bonus. As most will agree (that have it), PSE is the sweetest sound there is.

POST 3Original post

next you should disable the cutout between 25 to 45 mph!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey man, don't rain in my parade! I don't care what everyone else thinks or whatever the consensus is. If I like the way it sounds both ways, then so be it. My opinion is personal, so don't attack it. The facts which I stated might help someone decide either way if they should pull the trigger on the electronic switch (which costs a lot of money). Your opinion, which you are entitled, only serves to attack in an infantile manner. So, keep your opinion to yourself if its not helpful.

POST 5Original post

Whoa there tiger......not raining on your parade. To each his own. Take your meds and then come back and read what you just typed. Looks like you were looking for a reason to go off the deep end. Never once attacked you just asked a simple question in response to your thread. You really need to understand you are in a forum anyway and when you say something as stupid as you just did......attacks may come. Still, I have no desire to attack you even though you seem to think that is the case.......

POST 6Original post

ajc8888, Do you know of a way to disable the cutout without losing functionality of the nav system?

POST 7Original post

If you want the best of both worlds, get a set of GHL's, quite around town, sound like a cup car when you get it! They also add a little hp, as opposed to PSE. GHL is a board sponsor and currently have them on sale at a great price(way better than what I paid).

POST 8Original post

LiveNupe: I do not have factory nav, so am not sure. I did the method posted by "Carlos" on renntech. This involves unplugging the relay from under the dash, taking off the cover, and pulling off a diode. He has posted good pictures, and although I was concerned about it, it was easy, took 5 minutes and has created no issues for me. There is I think some discussion on renntech by others concerned about the nav issues, but Carlos seemed convinced it would not affect it. Since I have aftermarket nav which does not hook up to the speed sensor, it was not an issue for me. There is another method, almost as easy, posted by Loren on renntech. Sorry I could not be more definitive about the nav issue. There is also some discussion on the pca tech forum on this. I can tell you it is great to not have the sound withheld from you in the 25 - 45 range!

POST 9Original post

LiveNupe: Sorry, the renntech thread was by Eddy, not Carlos. (Sorry, Eddy). Here it is: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...t+cutout+diode

POST 10Original post

I have the button and I am glad of it. I use the car in quiet mode: When I leave for work in the morning When I get home from work in the evening (I live in a quiet area) When there are police around When I want to listen to my music Frankly, the car spends most of its time in quiet mode and I keep the loud setting for when I am in the mood for it. I would not be happy if I did not have the option... Barry

POST 11Original post

Barry, did you add PSE and the switch install after you bought the car the car or did your car come with it?

POST 13Original post

That's what I figured. The reason I ask is that most people do not feel that it is worth the extra money (about 6-8 hours of labor) nor the tearing apart of the car to get the wiring from the rear to the front (rattles will now magically appear) just so they can have a "quiet" mode on the car they just spent good money upgrading the sound of the exhaust in the first place. Now if the car is ordered with it, then it will have the switch prewired when the car was built and it is a nice feature to have. But......in the end most do the hack that will allow them to have the speed cutout disabled so that PSE is on ALL the time anyway.

POST 14Original post

I assume that the 'hack' you are talking about is the one that stops it being cut out during certain speeds. No other hack would be required - if you want it loud all the time just don't touch the button!

POST 15Original post

Correct. I am refferring to the hack to takes away the quite mode from about 30-45 mph.
