Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Once introduced in 2002, there were no changes to the 996 C4S until it was replaced by the 997 variant.
Leading evidence: 'Replace once introduced in 2002, there were no changes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'finest car he's ever driven' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace once introduced in 2002, there were no changes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. My brother in CT, who owns a couple of older vintage F-cars, drove my 996 4S last weekend and said it was probably the finest car he's ever driven.

Unsuccessful attempt
In fact, the 996 C4S ran side by side in the showrooms with the 997 C2's for a year. Just find a good example, well cared for, complete service records, and clean PPI, and the model year itself will make no difference.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking at purchasing a 05 997 or an 02-04 C4S. I love the back end. Is there any year to stay away from as far as the C4s? I had picked up something somewhere that had said 03's were more troublesome. It could be my imagination, also leads on a car would be helpful Thanks.
Yes. Stay away from '04s. Especially mine!! I love it!!
Good luck with your search - I think you can't go wrong with either a 997 or 996 4S. As for model years, the newer ones are preferable - there are some 2005s available also.

.
Just picked up a 2002 C4s... unbelievable! Some very seasoned Porsche drivers told me that if given the choice, they would go for a 996 C4S over a base model 997. Get a PPI, or even better, CPO car.
My brother in CT, who owns a couple of older vintage F-cars, drove my 996 4S last weekend and said it was probably the finest car he's ever driven. He agreed that between it and the 997, he would buy the former. Clearly likes more classic cars!
I have an '02 C4S and I love it. It drives incredible, but I also love the looks of the widebody rear end and the reflector spanning the entire bumper. I think it looks even better than the turbo, although given the chance...
How about a 2007 C4S
. I have a FS post and it is in Rennlist Classified.
$90K Firm 4801 Miles. NO better used car in the US.
