i'd change the wheels and to for adjustable coilovers, but other than that, not a bad package at all.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I don't think it will be much longer before the 997's will start to make it into the price range I am willing to spend on one.
I know the car is not a leap in Engineering advancements by any stretch of the imagination (just a 996 in new skins) but I just love the interiors, they're so damn SEXY.
It seems like you definitely get your money's worth in the interior department.
Now, if I can just get someone to trade me straight up their 997 for my ~500 hp '87........
I know I still love the 996 and that was the model I cut my teeth on, but, is anyone desiring one like me?
Looking into it. The cost of a 996 plus out of warranty repairs is more than I would be paying for an in warranty 997. Considering I have the 996 taken apart at the moment, I am not sure what I would do with my spare time if I had a 997.
BTW, there's a significant horsepower increase with the 997 and that little analog clock in the dash is so damn cute.
Deep down, yeah, would love the S
I've only had mine for about 8 months and <3K miles, so I am not ready just yet.
The other small problem is the possibility of my wife cutting my ***** right off due to the above.
Hmmm, on the other hand I am done w/having kids...
I would love an S, but don't need an S. I don't see enough in a 997 for me to justify selling a car that I love to get so little more in return. It will be a while before I go for a 996 replacement.
I can't see a nicer or better interior as a primary reason to buy a new 911. In fact, I've never had a problem with the quality and materials used in the interior of my '99. I mean, really.....people complain about the shiny plastic switches?
I prefer that Porsche put its money into engineering, design, and performance. What I see in the interior while I'm driving is only, at best, of secondary importance. While Audi has a reputation for fine quality interiors, I wouldn't buy one just because of that.
If 997 prices were as low as they are now when I bought my car late last year, I would have done it, but if you're able to wait I'm fairly confident you'll find some major deals this winter. I'm maried to my 996 until the CPO warranty is up
The 997 is tempting...the new MKII facelift version will be even more tempting as I think the S will now have around 385 HP IIRC. All that being said, I must say that for the price of a used 997S, I would rather grab a low mileage 996 turbo....the interior isn't that much nicer
If you're interested in moving up to a new 911 at a reasonable price, Cherry Hill Porsche (New Jersey) has a new arctic silver 2006 on the lot for $59K, sticker is $81K.
The 997's styling has grown on me...alot. When I purchased my '03 C4S in '05, I could have bought a 997 C2S for the same money but preferred the C4S from a styling perspective, and I think the 996 is more raw than a 997.
Having seen the updates for the '09 997 (hp, styling, options), I am more inclined to wait to get an '09+
car.
I would love a 997 S. Carrera White, Sea Blue Full Leather, PSE, XRR wheels, leather rear center console, leather door finishers, etc. I haven't given it much thought though.
I would never touch a base 997. It is actually slower then a 996, though I do like the wider rear but I don't like that they also increased the height of the rear which make it look like its crapping a basket ball.
A 996 with upgraded suspension will have the same if not better handling and is lighter, faster and only down 5 hp from the 997.
I always liked the look of the 997 and frankly, it's an easy trade at this point if I cared enough to do so. But I just don't. I'd sooner buy a new BMW R1200S than trade up.
By the by, though the 2009 looks great, I have to admit that I HATE the rear tail lights. They look VERY rice.
MOst definitely all around. the 993 is the fastest Porsche. it never requires maintenance, it never depreciates, and is the best looking by far. You should also not search that topic, but please start a new thread on it. Yes, that is exactly what this place needs.
even getting the 3.8 isn't a compelling upgrade to me. so the 3.6 997? hell no.
seriously i'd wait for the 3.8 DFI to settle down before i consider an upgrade.
as for the rear lights "hate" comment... you can't hate what you don't want. The LEDs will be a much neede update for the tired incandescent BS porsche still outfits on their VW kraut rear light treatment.
else, you guys need to drive a ferrari 360 and above to really get an upgrade.
I'm at the proverbial crossroad on this subject these days. My CPO is done in Feb. 09 and I'm torn between 997S or 996 turbo. Leaning toward the turbo (today). Either way I have to go with another cab. It makes the ride to/from work the highlight of my day.
CPO shouldn't be the motivator behind switching your car.
I have asked myself the question as to whether I'm driving my current car to it's full potential and came to the conclusion that I was not. That being the case, then why should I upgrade to a 997 before I've fallen out of love with my current car? Many people here do not drive their cars to their full potential, so trading up just for "extra performance" is tantamount to buying a ***** extension.
3.8 X51 is a very quick car, and once those facelift cars hit it shouldn't be able to command its current premium. But the base 997 is still pretty decently outfitted, and the faster/slower debate is never going to go anywhere. IF you want a newer car and don't mind the way it looks, I say sit back, wait until the facelift cars come out, and make a decision.
At the time the only thing that prevented me from buying a base 997 was that the CPO cars I was seeing were in the 60s to even low 70s, which:
1) I felt was insanely high-priced for 05 strippers/lightly optioned
2) especially since I was hearing off-lease 997s weren't really moving well at auction, and
3) 997 wasn't any faster than a 996 which I could buy for a LOT less with the same 2 year CPO warranty.
Easy decision (I'm not an interior guy). Treated myself to some wheels & tires. 6 months later 997s seem to be falling off a cliff! So I think I can pat myself on the back for not catching a falling knife, but at the same time I wonder if the downward pressure on the 997s won't eventually send our cars into the cellar.
As for Wellardmac's comment on CPO, I personally didn't mean to sound like the car was going up on the auction block once it came off warranty. The CPO for me is like a pre-nup: if she's still dead on reliable, behaving predictably etc. after 2 years, of course I'll drive her till the wheels fall off!
Awwwww that sucks
Hope that moment passes soon
Hey, you're a handsome man, Marry rich. You got a solid shot at being an older womans play thing.
997 TT here we come!!
arn, that thing is siq with the techart aero package and wheels and springs. i'd change the wheels and to for adjustable coilovers, but other than that, not a bad package at all. i'd never get it tho.
Dude I heard that upon his untimely demise, she sent her only son's estate the bill for the transportation of his body from upstate back to the city. Shiver me frickn timbers thats cold
