Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It looks like a cylinder head has cracked on my engine. The guys are saying they can rebuild it and not have to replace the whole unit. This all sounds good but what are the chances of the engine having recurring problems or the head may go again??What are peopel experiences of rebuilt engines whose cylinder heads have cracked??

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

It depends on how an where it is cracked - and how good the welding company that fixes it is. In the US a new cylinder (without the labor to install it) is over $2500.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

a ROW reman engine from sunset stands me up 12000US$ including shipping..

POST 4Original post

Knowing the level of expertise among HK mechanics, I would not go the rebuild route...do it right and less headaches over the long term.

POST 5Original post

i would take advantage of the weak dollar and get the reman engine what's the labor rate in HK?

POST 6Original post

^^HKD is pegged to the USD so no advantage there.

POST 7Original post

i'd buy a used head from a salvage yard & have it serviced by a machine shop and installed in the car.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

to be fair Road and Track is run and owned by a guy called Barry Forth Aussie guy lots of Porsche racing experience and services many porsche privateers in Asian porsche cup series. So i am guessing he knows what he is doing..comes very highly regarded.
