Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Based on your upgrade list, it didn't take you long to convert the white beast to more of a track car than a street car. I have watched you redefine your 911 with envious eyes. What would you replace it with? Someone on this site will ****** your current ride up quickley...GL Chad!
Thanks Barn. Given how nice she is....I simply do not have the heart to tear her up. I have decided to go after a fully built BMW e36 M3 track car. Cage, engine, fire supression system. It simple makes more sense for safety and the wallet.
Parts are a bit cheaper and easier to come by and if I wad it on the track, the replacement cost is less.

I thought about doing a Das bar. A lot....I mean
A LOT!!
But, after totally up JRZ or Motons, plus springs, and then the average costs in tires, etc...an M3 makes for a great track car all around. Tires are smaller, less maintenance costs and a hoot to drive too.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this car. I truly do.
But, I like track driving that much more. And, to improve my skills that much more I need a dedicated car that I don't mind so much about wading up.

If you're looking for a lot of seat time, keep the 996 and buy a race-prepped 914. You can learn a lot, have a blast, and it won't hurt your wallet as much.
Wow Chad, you've put a ton of work into that 996 and it really shows.
I'm not sure you'll get what you put into it out in a quick sale.
What about a less expensive "race car" (like a miata) and keep the 996 for the street?
Miata = 914. No worky for me.
As I mentioned, I am on the fence about the car. I really like her, but simply cannot justify putting her on the track. If the right buyer comes along, I will likely part company.

I know you see and hear a lot...this is my post from another BB. thought i'd take the liberty and share it with you. Thanks Greginland...a newbie.
WTB/WTT for a 996 Cab 6 speed

I'm 56 and don't look a day over 55. In my youth I had a '83SC. Want to turn back the clock but with a 996. Own several cars...my daily driver is a 04 Cayenne S. I've got a go to and from the track garage queen for sale or trade. A 2006 Chrysler SRT8 in silver...pristine with 5500 miles. Every available option...DVD, SAT radio, parking sensors, NAV, 20" rims...everything and a 425HP engine to boot. Never in the snow or even the rain...a sunny day driver only. I'd like to get into a nice '99 or 2000 996. The SRT8 is worth about 27k at the auction and about 33k retail. I'm located north of Pittsburgh, Pa. Any one out there want to lighten their load...and not ready for a minivan just yet?

You have a great looking car, can you please contact me and let me know what you are looking for. Apparently I don't have enough posts/privileges to PM
Hey, Chad - I'm surprised that you're considering the change, but the desire to race is intense. Not for me, but I'm envious of those who do and are serious about it. Good luck with whichever path you choose.
Have you considered turning your 996 over to Synergy (or a similar company)? I just talked to a previous 997 owner who sold his car and bought a stock 996 for Synergy to modify. I can't speak to the details, but he said it was a cost effective way to go. I have a brochure and they make some amazing alterations. I can PM you his phone number, if you'd like to ask him about it. He's a member of VIR now and tracks his newly race-prepped car there.

Forgot to mention that I was going through my folder from the old 951 I used to own, and I found the printout of the Andretti Speed Lab event that you and I (and a bunch of PCAers) attended years ago. What a laugh - I should be on Oprah for hording! Is that place still around?
You'll be happy to know that your name is right at the top of the pack with the best time.
Chad,
Before jumping in with both feet. Why not rent a racecar for a raceschool (they are required to get your competition license anyway) and get a feel for it. If really thinking of a Racing the best advice has always been to buy someone else's already converted and proven car. If your thinking of a DE-non competitive event I think the point is really mute. What you have works. I don't get the mentality of needing a gutted car w/ a rollcage to go to a non-timed DE. Just my 2 cents and I have been doing this since 1989.
Hey Chad, Just wanted to add that IMHO that you leaving us would be a loss to our little 996 group here. I think you may be the only person with a street car that researched and performed the 3.4 oiling update. Thanks for all your contributions to our cause.
I personally keep toying with the racecar bit...Of course I would use it for DE's and any other form of track time. But I always reach my senses when I start thinking of the SUV/truck to pull it, the trailer and the place to store the trailer, a shop/storage place to keep it and then the fact that it won't be street legal at all so no driving it around at all. sniff Why do I have to think about all this?
i wouldn't call it a BIG pucker moment, but it does always suck when you chuck a gorgeous car off the track.
this car, for those interested, is pristine & very well sorted. i personally think chad is insane for even considering selling it already. i wish i were in a position to ****** it up right now.
Thanks all. Like I said, I am on the fence. Swaying....
It's a tough call, no doubt. But, my gut tells me to be safe out there. I am beginning to push my skills a bit more lately. And that means....safety first. I do not want to tear apart this car to do that. There are others out there that are already prepped for much cheaper than it is to build.
Thanks for all the sentiments. I will be making my final decision by Friday this week.

Chad, do you know frayed on this board? I believe he's gone through a bunch of cars, has a great perspective on cars (street & track), and had an E36 M3, went to a bunch of top 911s, and then eventually went back to the E36 M3 will full track trimmings.
I'd message him in case you haven't already for some advice. I really do enjoy reading his posts. Very level-headed and none of that rah rah Porsche pom pom bs we get here sometimes.
Ah yes...Frayed. I know him personally. He has traded more cars than I have underwear. All joking aside, he is a great guy. We have talked plenty about what toys and racing. He'd laugh if he heard I was thinking about selling...
C.
Chad-Wow, thinking of selling the white mistress. I thought the only way that car was leaving you was when they pried it from your cold fingers. The E36 is a great track car but have you considered keeping the 996 and getting a prepared E30?? They are a blast and one of the cheapest ways to enter racing. You shouldn't have a problem fitting into one either.
I personally have a fully prepared 1975 2002 that I have raced in vintage. A new engine is being installed in it now that will kick ***. Now that car is a rocket and the vintage events are great even for young guys like us.
