More use of blurring and panning to emphasize the speed would be good too.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I attended the Easter weekend event at High Plains Raceway outside of Byers Colorado and was the volunteer photographer. Shot a lot of photos and have started posting them on my website. I tried the "pan & blur" technique, as well as stop action, telephoto, pit action, etc. I shot from about 4 different vantage points during the drive time events, and I meandered through the pits, getting shots of pre-drive activities. I tried to get photos of all the cars in some form or fashion. Also tried to get action photos of cars passing, curves, finish line, etc. I'd appreciate fellow Rennlisters opinions on the photos and suggestions as to other shots / techniques to try next time. I'm pretty new to Race photography. Here's the linkee. When you get there, click on the Porsche Club event at High Plains Raceway. PCA Drivers Event Please note, this is not a commercial solicitation at all, just asking for some suggestions to help push my own envelope. Thanks, Sam T.

POST 3Original post

Hi Sam, Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed looking at all of the shots. Here are my recommendations: I would like to see more diagonal action. Frame the shots so that the cars are coming from the upper left corner to the lower right, for example. More use of blurring and panning to emphasize the speed would be good too. Have you tried zooming in or out during the shot? That can yield some interesting results. I would also like to see the camera at different heights relative to the road. Mix it up a bit with low angle and high angle shots. Bill

POST 4Original post

Very nice pics. Whenever we have a Photog at an event, I ask to have pics of my car with other cars. Otherwise it's just a pic of my car with numbers. Could be on the way to the track. <--Like my avatar

POST 5Original post

How exactly are you able to offer a commercial license of these photos without the attendee's written permission?

POST 6Original post

I'm sorry I missed that event. I was planning to be there, but it just wasn't in the cards...

Thanks for pointing this out. I made changes to the site. My intent on this shoot is to offer the photos to attendees primarily. If someone wants to use commercially, I'd rather that I contact the car's owner and get a release signed. Stay warm up at Ft. Mac. It's been many years since I've been up there (I worked for Petrolite, and worked on the emulsion breaker / dispersant back in the '80s).

Great suggestion. I tried to do this and have posted many more.

Thanks, Bill. I thought about the zoom technique after the fact. I'll definitely practice it for the next event. Also, I posted some of the different angles recently. Great minds think alike. I shot from towers, and below track level.
