I replaced the clutch about 10k ago, and it's had the "normal" stuff - like a coolant expansion tank replaced, new gaskets on the cam covers and spark plug tubes, oh yeah - and a new water pump also about 10k ago, because it started leaking a bit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I searched the threads to find who has the highest mileage cars, and 50k-80k was high! Needless to say, I was crushed. When I bot my 01C4 last August, it had 35k miles, in less than a year of what I consider "light driving" I now have 45k. This really makes it sound like it's middle-aged! For comparison, my other car is a 98 Nissan Pathfinder, which I bot with 122k miles. It now has 196k miles, with absolutely nothing new except brakes and tires. Believe it or not, there are many many other Pathfinders with that kind of mileage. It's totally common to go > 200k mi. I love to drive and to go on those mile-racking backroad cruises. Not to mention that in the Northeast, commutes rack up miles faster than a bill racks up charges at the Greenwich Porsche dealership. If not for engine blow-ups which I read about every other day on this forum, I would easily put 20k miles on the 01C4 each year. End-of-life in three years for $40k? That's preposterous! A 2000+ car has to last 100k miles plus, end of story, no excuses. I feel that with proper care, I expect a modern vehicle to last to 150k without major issues. Is it that typical Porsche owners trade up when miles get to 60-80k? What about the higher mileage Porsches? Anyone else feel the same way? -- rant out!

POST 3Original post

I have 73K miles, 2003 C4s. Daily driver and I do mean daily.

POST 4Original post

Just passed 97K miles on a '99 C2. Was putting 25,000 miles a year, but am carpooling now so it will slow way down. Will probably hit the 100K mark by the end of the summer though.

POST 5Original post

I just clicked over 100,000 km (60 miles) and only thing other than mods is the water pump. 99 C2. Daily in non snow months.

POST 6Original post

My 99 is my daily driver of 50 miles per day and I'm currently over 86K. Rick 99 996 C4 87 944S 78 924

Only 60 miles...get out and drive that thing.

POST 8Original post

80k miles just around the corner from me, my 99 c4 is my daily beater car.

POST 9Original post

I'm not surprised that there aren't many 100k 996s yet - even the oldest is less than 10 years old, and a lot of Pcar owners have another car as well to put some of their mileage on. FWIW, my '02 is well over 90k now, and I expect to hit 100,000 miles later this year. I'll keep it as long as it continues to behave reasonably well. If the engine blows at 130-170k, I might see what RUF can fit for me...

POST 10Original post

It feels like we have a thread like this every week. I'll write the same thing i always write: 2001 C4-92,600 miles with no major problems

POST 11Original post

I have 94K miles on my 99 C2 but only 25K on the engine.

POST 12Original post

I would have traded up my 2000 996 a log time ago, but the depreciation is just nuts. There is no way my car with 65k miles is worth the same, as a 3.2 G50 with the same mileage. I love those cars, but they aren't even in the same league as a 996. I'll just drive it until something major does happen, if ever, then do a rebuilt engine with perhaps a super charger to make it more interesting. I've replaced water pump, idler pulley, one wheel bearing. I've actually spent a lot more on mods than maintenance, so all 996s just aren't unreliable. That is a myth I hope goes away eventually.

POST 13Original post

I am with the OP - it is sad to have to worry about these kinds of problems with our high end, relatively new cars. I will tell you though, what's worse than having to come out of pocket to pay for a new engine is the response you get from PCNA about it. Basically they don't care. This is my 3rd Porsche, the previous 2 being turbos. However, since I did not buy my 996 new, they gave no consideration when my motor went at 53K. It killed my confidnce in the brand and turned what may have been a Cayenne for the wife into a Range Rover instead. Just as many problem, but none of them $11K worth. It is sad that many (myself included) are scared to own a 996 out of warranty.

POST 14Original post

u know i'll tend to stick up for the rennlist brother over a company like porsche. with that said, what does pcna owe you? they owe you nothing. they have no idea how you treat the car. whether you're abusive or you're a good steward. do you keep your oil full? did you always choose the approved oils? if you're not the first owner, can you assure them that the prior owner(s) did care for it and follow the manual's maintenance schedule. we can all rant and that's fine, but.... at the end of the day..... pcna/porsche doesn't owe us ****.

POST 15Original post

I bought my 99 C2 last November with 94K. As of today it has 101K miles. I drive the **** out of the car. Since I have had the car I have changed front rotors and pads, one rear wheel bearing, and I need to change the oil. Before me all of the upkeep was done at the stealer every 15K. 2 RMS seals, still on the original clutch and eng as far as I can tell by the records. Am I scared that the engine may just blow up? Hell yes! What is a 100K 99 C2 worth with out an engine? Not much. Anybody what to buy my car for 22K and I'll get a nice 968 as a play car.

POST 16Original post

116,000 1999 C4 Lots of tires no clutch, engine or RMS. Get out and drive your cars.

POST 17Original post

Just turned 86k on mine, bought it with 55k....pretty much just brakes, tires & oil....had the clutch replaced prior to my purchase, no RMS...runs like a champ!!

POST 18Original post

Just ticked over 115k this past weekend. Drives like a champ and never lets me down - doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes, either. I replaced the clutch about 10k ago, and it's had the "normal" stuff - like a coolant expansion tank replaced, new gaskets on the cam covers and spark plug tubes, oh yeah - and a new water pump also about 10k ago, because it started leaking a bit. I'm totally amazed at how reliable it is. When I see anything that might be an issue, I just take it in and get it replaced/fixed right away, and change the oil every 7.5k or so. I drive the crap out of it though - I redline it at least once per day (gotta keep the cylinders clean ), and drive it rain or shine. I never baby it and drive it the way it was meant to be. I just park right next to other cars and don't search for the lone parking spot in the back of the lot- as if it were some special car or something - it's just my daily driver and I couldn't be happier with it.

POST 19Original post

I've been afraid to post... because something will break as soon as I let everyone know that my 99 C2 daily driver will trip 100k by summer and there have been no issues... Of course I had a corvette a few years ago that had 185k miles on the odometer when I sold it. Original motor, transmission, etc. Hope the porsche is as reliable as the vette was.

POST 20Original post

I know that the thread is about >100k miles but I am proud that I just hit 70k yesterday on my 00 c2 daily driver (all year round, snow and all). Track the car every now and then. Original engine. I have a minor rms leak, otherwise no issues (the rms issue is a non-issue as long as the oil level is ok, over 8 months I have never added oil and I have never seen a noticable decrease in oil)

POST 21Original post

>101K miles on my DD 99 C2. No worries except oxidized alternator/battery connection and cracked plastic coolant overflow tank.

POST 22Original post

82k, 2004 C2 bought new, still has original engine and clutch: -two rear main seal replacements -stereo headunit gave up the ghost once -serpentine belt idler pulley failure -oil pressure sending unit (or it's connection) seems to go out sporadically -cruise control sometimes doesn't engage of late -new gaskets on the cam covers and spark plug tubes -new brake pads (rotors still within spec, surprisingly) at 70k -one wheel out-of-round (balances though) likely due to potholes It's likely time to replace the stock suspension (hello ROW M030). I will buy a new set of carrera 5-spoke wheels and tires from suncoast for this summer, get the originals repaired and just use them for winter, and replace the cracked windshield. A snow bank destroyed the sacrificial black plastic clip-on lip under the GT3 front bumper, so that will be fixed too. I'm sure the clutch will be next. If the engine kicks off, I will definitely supercharge its replacement.

POST 23Original post

my first 911 SC (1980) had 178K miles on it when we parted ways. and it was as strong then as it ever was for me - it leaked NO oil

POST 24Original post

Sold mine at 102k miles, it was very solid minus the worn suspension.
