Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The difference in the ride and feel was amazing once I had them trued and repaired, even with the Sumitomos put back on (they only have like 6kmiles on them from the PO.

Suggestion
Certainly is wise to replace all 4 tires and valves and get them balanced AND check/get an alignment.

My simple question is A: should I look at replacing the dented rim even though I don't seem to notice it that much; and B: should I replace the Sumitomo's with a new set, or should I opt for the traditional OE specs.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Welcome all, first time / long time.
I recently purchased an '03 Black Carrera from a dealer down in Texas. I had it shipped up to Canada and then drove her home up north. Beautiful Lady, C2, sexy and shapely in all the right places. Now the "fun" part begins. I recently noticed that she was tracking right slightly as I was highway driving so I brought her in for balancing. As it turns out, the right rear rim OE is slightly dented. Also, she came with Sumitomo tires and seem to have weathered time quite well. But, they also seem a bit long in the tooth due their age (4 yrs.), and I'll probably look at replacing those sooner rather than later.
My simple question is A: should I look at replacing the dented rim even though I don't seem to notice it that much; and B: should I replace the Sumitomo's with a new set, or should I opt for the traditional OE specs.
All help and assistance would certainly be well appreciated.
Regards,
Merlyn
Pictures!!!
On the wheel, get it repaired or replaced.
On the tires, that's a religious argument, do a search on tires and start reading. But, if you are planning on 'normal' street driving, there's a lot to be said for Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 N-rated tires, IMHO.
Grats, and get some pictures up here ASAP!
I can't get any admin to respond to my request to allow me to log in to post. It's very frustrating!!
I have 18's with Sumitomo HRZ II's. Good wearing tire, but I'm, otherwise not impressed. Conti's for the cost conscience are better IMHO, and Michelins if you can swing $1400 for rubber. All 4 of my rims had variuos flat spots from the PO, and one even had a small crack. The difference in the ride and feel was amazing once I had them trued and repaired, even with the Sumitomos put back on (they only have like 6kmiles on them from the PO. I wonder if the OE "N" spec tires, which are supposed to have stiffer sidewalls offer better rim protection....
Well, yes, I'm afraid that this would happen......
I'm not too technically proficient with digital picture taking and transferring them to the computer. (I pay other people to do that for me !!!)
So I will endeavor to post a couple of pics to see. I just want to find a nice sunny day for you to see her in natural light.
For the standard 18" rim, any idea regarding costs? Just curious since there really is no real authorized fixer-upper place up here where I could bring her in to be fixed.
Now about the tires.....I have heard some pretty good things about the Michelins. The tire place here quoted me $2,200 for a new set which I happen to think might be too rich for them. I might look at buying some tires from the US and shipping them here to Canada as I understand the price of rubber up here makes them quite dear here compared to other places on the planet!!!
I'm not too concerned about saving money. I paid cash for my Lady and I know it will take a lot more to get everything right, I just don't believe in being taken advantage of when the money I have could be better used in other areas of the old girl.

Welcome Merlyn!
Make sure that dented wheel is not losing any pressure. Certainly is wise to replace all 4 tires and valves and get them balanced AND check/get an alignment. Then you'll know your girl is walking in new and stable shoes!
if it's bent anywhere on the inside of the rim (i.e. not near the wheel spokes or center) there is bound to b someone local to you who can true them for you, typical cost is $100 range but can be a little less or a little more. If you are keeping the wheels, do it, you'll thank yourself later.
I don't believe PS2's are N-rated in 996 sizes.
I do believe N-rated PS2's are available in 997 sizes.
PS "Ribs" are N-rated (N1) in 996 sizes, and are exceptional tires. Cost equivalent to PS2.
I'm about 400 km north of T.O. It's kind of nice since I could count the number of 911's around here on two hands. Unfortunately because I could only count that many Porsche's, there aren't too many places I could bring her into if needed!
Yes, I do root for the Habs. If for no other reason than I can't stand the Toronto Make-Beliefs. I mean, if the Leafs were actually serious about winning the championship, they should all go and join the PGA, where their odds are so much greater.
