Reported cause
Turned out to be loose and broken clips for the headliner.
Leading evidence: 'loose and broken clips' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'loose and broken clips' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). Dealership told me it was the top creaking when it's lowered.

I tried lubricating the window seal with BMW Gummi Fledge and even Plexus plastic cleaner, neither worked.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's not my door latch like it was on my Boxster S.
This is coming higher up like maybe the seat belt height adjuster....maybe ? Or some of the interior trim in that area.
Has anyone experienced this and fixed it with success ?
And don't tell me to turn up the radio !!
Thanks all
I have had the same problem in my 99 Cab. I have a GHL exhaust so I don't hear it too much with the top down. I would be interested in figuring out what the noise is?
I have a 99 C4 with the same problem, that was addressed by the dealer twice. They said it had something to do with the sun roof and unfortunately the noise always came back after some time. So I just learned to live with it. I never took off the roof liner so I don't know exactly what is there, but would take a chance if someone can identify the problem.
Yes Leon, you could call it a ticking noise or click sound.
It is just very annoying because it seems to be directly next to my left ear.
Interesting that when I lower the drivers window just a little bit, like about 1/4" it seems to stop. I tried lubricating the window seal with BMW Gummi Fledge and even Plexus plastic cleaner, neither worked.
Anyone???
Oh, By the way everyone...I noticed I'm getting a few responses from cab owners. Mine is a coupe not a cab and I don't think the same cure/fix would apply since there is no B pillar in a cab. If that is indeed where the problem is.
Thanks.
SYMA, yes, my car is a cab (no B-pillar) but I get that same annoying clicking sound.
I'll try lowering the window a tad on the way home tonight, and report tomorrow.
However, I think the sound comes from the seatbelt assembly.
I had a similar ,I'm assuming , sound that came from my b and c pillars in a C2 coupe.
Turned out to be loose and broken clips for the headliner.
The male clip , in the headliner, would rattle in the female plug in the pillar.
Took a few trips to the dealer to locate them also.
Noise disapears whenwindow is lowered a bit.
Interestingly, I lowered the small rear window (cabs can do that) and the noise was gone.
So I am now thinking the cause is the felt like material between the small rear window and the front one.
I have the same noise I think.... I have a 2000 Cab. However, mine is only there with the top down. Therefore, my rear windows are down. It doesn't matter if my front windows are up or down. Dealership told me it was the top creaking when it's lowered. I don't believe it, but I have no idea where the noise is coming from.
I have a MY03 cab and i get clicking sounds from the same place.. sounds like something to do with the seat belt... so ANNOYING!!!
How can i stop it???
