May have to add some oil to my car... for those of you who have done it, do you detach the oil filler tube (seems like there is a clip on the bottom), so the oil flows straight down? Or do you just pour it in? Thanks! Ross

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

While I did this with previous 911's, I not 100% sure this will work with the new ones as I haven't had the need to try, but it worked in the past.

Ross, yes, just pull up (gently) on the filler neck & it will pop up so that it is easier to add oil, then pop it back into place. - Cam
more designed to keep you from spilling the oil then to make it flow to the engine....
Buy yourself a $2 funnel to make it a spill proof operation. Chris.
added oil this weekend - beyond easy, thanks for all the help. Ross
Good mod. What did you put in there?
I need to do the opposite, I need to remove some oil out of mine to see if the white/blue smoke will stop on hard corners and acceleration. I'm at a little over max.
Removing a little via the drain point is tough - as soon as you undo the drain plug, it gushes out at a hell of a rate! You could just try doing more spirited driving to burn the excess off Chris.
Piece of cake. After you have given the car some time to sit remove the plastic cover that protects the oil filter cartridge and there will be oil in that. Remove that cover and drain the oil that is in it, re-attach the cover, start the car and check you oil again. If you nned to remove more, just repeat the steps until you are at a safe level. NEVER GOOD TO OVERFILL!!!!
Genius solution LVDell Chris.
Easiest way to remove excess oil? Buy a good flexible turkey baster. Once cold, gently insert the tube in the oil filler receptical and squeeze the "bulb" and release. That should do it. While I did this with previous 911's, I not 100% sure this will work with the new ones as I haven't had the need to try, but it worked in the past.
the oil sump is to far to do that. I even tried my oil extractor from my MB and it doesn't reach that far down.
LVD, well thanks for the info. As I mentioned, I never tried to do this on my 996. Now, I will try it to see for myself...again thanks.
