Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know how to remove the light switch on a 99 996? I found a walkthrough before but I cannot seem to locate it now. Any help appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Pull the **** all the way out, it is spring loaded and use a nail, pick, or something slim directly underneath the **** and probe until it releases. Then I believe there is a screw holding the assy in.

POST 4Original post

Spot on Don! I've done it before. Don't forget the 3rd screw (#21) that's in the vent.

POST 5Original post

followed the instructions in the thread to replace my own failing switch - start to finish took 20 minutes... a VERY easy DIY thanks for the info

POST 6Original post

same here followed instructions and it was an hour job.. ok taking your sweet time 1/ pull the light switch control button, look at the bottom with a flashlight you will see a yellowish tab, push ip upward, then the button will come off 2/ remove the screw located on the side of the air vent 3/ remove the nut (24centimeter) located behind the switch button 4/ pull the plastic surrounding (item 27 in the graph) 5/ remove the 3rd screw located on the right side. Note: if you have a screwdriver slim enough to reach the screw through the plastic surrounding, you don't even have to remove that item 27. 6/ pull the whole air vent assembly out, I pulled from the switch metallic tip to avoid any damage to the plastic assembly 7/ you should have enough room to remove the cable plug behind the switch, there is no tab to depress, easy even with only one hand 8/ rotate the switch clockwise and remove it put it all back together and voila, both of my headlight/litronics are now working again...
