Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just bought my first Porsche about 3 weeks ago...and I LOOOVE it! I got a 2002 Carrera out in Newport Beach. I live out in Palm Springs. I'll try and Post some better pictures soon! I'm looking forward to making lots of mods to the car over time! Ive previously owned a 2003 BMW M3, great car as well. Something about the Porsche though...cant put my finger on it. Love the Porsche. Can anyone suggestion on how I should go about finding a good Porsche mechanic out here in Palm Springs? I know word of mouth if probably the best way. But I just moved out here in Feb. Dont know anyone really. Atleast Porsche owners. Also, can anyone point me to some websites to where I can do some interior customization stuff and sites for rims? Been thinking of putting some aluminum on the interior to match the shifter and ebrake. Thanks guys!

POST 2Original post

Wow. You came all the way out here to Phillips on PCH. Congrats on the ride. It looks sweet.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Where are you at 996 MBA CFA? Its really not THAT far, it was a good drive though. But it was worth getting out of the heat! haha. Ive only lived out in Palm Springs since Feb. I have a friend who lives in Newport area so I stayed the weekend down there, did a drive down PCH down to Laguna Beach and all that. It was a nice little weekend get away/porsche purchase trip. haha.

POST 4Original post

I love the night time shot from the back ... The shape says it all. Now get rid of the "Phillips" sign. Beautiful ride Congratulations

POST 5Original post

Hey, I was looking at that car, so you got it, what did it sell for?

POST 7Original post

welcome! bumperplugs.com good place to start for interior mods wheelenhancement.com great place for rims....They have just about every rim available for a Porsche.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the helpful links newport996! Can anyone suggest a website where I can get thicker porsche steering wheels? Maybe some with aluminum on them. I like the Porsche steering wheel in my car. Its the 3 spoke. But its kind of thin compared the my BMW M3 steering wheel. Having aluminum on it would look cool too I think.

Any plans to take track your car? POC (Porsche Owners Club) has an event coming up in a couple of weeks at the Streets of Willow. If you're interested, go to http://www.porscheownersclub.org/ for more info. At any rate, here's a list of the POC official tech stations. I'm relatively new to California and don't know if any of these shops are near Palm Springs. I didn't include the shops that I know aren't near you. 911 Design 5235 State Street Montclair, CA 91763 Loren Beggs [phone removed] Hergesheimer Motorsports 20612 Canada Road Lake Forest, Cal. 92630 Mark Hergesheimer (949)458-7223 RPM 10050 6th St. #E Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730 Randy Beck [phone removed] Huntley Racing 10039 Prospect Ave, Suite K Santee, CA 92071 Derrek Khajavi John Dayton Enterprises 2765 Rose Ave Signal Hill, CA 90806 John Dayton (562)424-0024 Stuttgart Automobile Service 19841 Valley Blvd. Walnut, CA 91789 Carlos Granados (909)595-1936 European Motorsports 2588 Progress St. #11 Vista, Cal. 92083 Joe Vampola (858)599-9307 Game-Face Motorsports 601 East Lambert Rd. Welcome and congrats on the new car! Carnewal has both the thicker and aluminum version steering wheel. There does not however appear to be a combination of both: Thicker Wheel: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96138.htm Enjoy your car...

POST 16Original post

I finally purchased my 996 a few weeks ago also. I've wanted one since I new how to spell PORSCHE (about 30 years ago). I had a guards red 944 in the mid-90's...but I still wasn't satisfied. Had kids and then a few 5 series BMW's...great cars, but not enough "go-go". Finally, the kids are old enough to sit in the back seats w/out boosters. I was out shopping for an E class and came home with the 996. The dealer knew I was torn between an E500 and the 996 so he said the magic words: "since you aren't sure, go ahead, take the porsche home and call me tomorrow to let me know you answer". This car is phenomenal. '02 w/ 20K miles. Guards red w/out a blem and black interior, red console, red belts, crests in the headrests, 3 pc O Z wheels (dealer installed by original owner). My only problem now is figuring out how to keep my foot off the GAS. E

POST 17Original post

I've never seen those rims before, they're interesting.

POST 18Original post

But what about since you knew how to spell knew ? ......sorry, couldn't resist.

POST 19Original post

what I meant was "gnu". Hey, spell check doesn't catch those types of errors! I guess now it's time to beat up on the new guy...Damn those hooked on phonics tapes!!!

POST 20Original post

The wheels are an 18" O Z 3 piece. (silver spokes with a polished lip) I'm not sure of the model, but they've got OE center caps and seem to be a perfect fit for the hub (no centering adapter ring). These seem to be the original shoes based on what I know about the car. I'm not to keen on the Continental tires though (inconsistent with hard breaking and the only strong point I see is that they make it easy to hang the tail out with minimal effort). Any suggestions on a superior replacement tire?

POST 21Original post

Actually, it's time to beat up on the knew guy! A lot of guys like the Pilot Sport2. Others like the Bridgestone S02-A. While others like the Pirelli Rosso P-Zeros. All are "N" rated and all are very soft with good grip. You will likely get only 12k - 15k miles from the rear tires. Double that for the front tires. There are a ton of threads about tires on the forum. If you did a "search" on tites, you could read tire threads all night.... literally.

Alright, Ive already gotten my first speeding ticket after owning my Porsche for about 3 weeks. I'm actually pretty bitter about it, because I wasnt speeding. The female officer claims she got me with the laser from over 1000 feet away in a parking lot while there was tons of traffic. I believe she hit someone else with the laser. There were people going much faster than me on the road. She claims i was going 62 in a 40. BULLLLSHHHIIIt. Oh well. Im over it. I'm fighting it anyways. Thought Id share my frustration. I can do traffic school and not have it go on record and affect my insurance. I feel like she was profiling me. Young guy in brand new porsche=speeding. Ive owned cars just as fast and I havent gotten pulled over for speeding since I was 16. The only reason why I am so what okay taking this bullcrap of a ticket is that I'm over due for my speeding ticket. haha. But I'm still planning on fighting it.
