Never noticed this before, but when I got back the fan would run for about 30 sec, pause 30 sec then run again.

Just went for a quick drive. Never noticed this before, but when I got back the fan would run for about 30 sec, pause 30 sec then run again. This seems to have kept up for at least the last 5 minutes. How long has your fan run?

That is nrmal. Mine does the same thing. It will continue to cycle on and off until the temp cools down enough.

from the Workshop manuals... Switch-on conditions for engine compartment fan The engine compartment fan is switched on when the engine compartment temperature is > 80C. or the coolant temperature is > 102C. After-running of engine compartment fan If the ignition is switched off and the engine compartment temperature is more than 60C, the DME control module remains in readiness for another 20 minutes. During this time, the engine compartment temperature is retrieved every 10 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is > 85C, the engine compartment fan is switched on for 20 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is still > 85C after this time, the fan remains on for a further 30 seconds.

Check to make sure your sensor did not fall off the grommet down onto the manifold. They sometimes come loose from the mounting position between the intake branches..
