Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just checked your website and see that it is listed with no model year exclusions.
Leading evidence: 'Check website and see' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check pet' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Fact is that PAG installed the X74 on the '99-'01 cars as a factory exclusive option.

Suggestion
PAG never stated that you can't use install a X74 setup on a '99-'01 car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Any know if these fit on a pre 2001 996? Gert and other dealers tell me many of their customers use X74 on cars like mine, a 99 996. I'm just wondering how hard is it to install the plates or how are they attached?
Thanks
Dell, not sure about that. Gert, who seems a pretty good source, claims that the x74 was offered as an "exclusive ROW option" in 99'-01". I hope you don't prove me wrong, as you typically do, as I have the X-74 sitting in a box at home, waiting for install....! It is also my understanding that the C4 always had increased structural/torsional rigidity over the C2.
Also, wouldn't you say that in the end, there is NO WAY the X74 is stiffer and more demanding than many of the aftermarket options?
So, does this mean that PSS9's which are probably similar from a setup point of view will also break an early 996? I haven't seen any thing like that said about the earlier 996s. I appreciate it isn't be as stiff as a later one but that said, if I didn't do this, wouldn't it also mean putting PSS9s on is a bad idea also?
Thanks
For drivng around town? Good. But if you are going to push your car on the track? No.
I would never say that it is stiffer than the aftermarket options knowing that the choices are endless.
For me, the choice was easy, RoWM030 kit for my 2000 996.
Dell,
What in the world are you talking about? There are dozens of early 996s that race in Grand Am, PCA, POC and NASA with suspensions that are many times stiffer than X74 and the cars are being driven much harder than a DE car will ever be.
Jim
Talking about what is stated by PAG not what is actually done by others. 2 totally different ballgames. Obviously warranty, etc., doesn't cover those cars. To each his own. Just depends on exactly how much you want to push the risk/reward envelope.

Fact is that PAG installed the X74 on the '99-'01 cars as a factory exclusive option.
Need proof on that : Check the PET.
Another fact is that most US dealers never heard of the X74 and will therefore make the strangest claims about this suspension. Usually in behalf of PAG.
bnewport : The plates are installed in the engine bay, near the tail lights.
It's a straight bolt on.
FWIW : The mk1 and mk2 GT3 come with standard with these 2 little plates.
Getting back on topic...or maybe looking at this from a different perspective...can anyone post pics of the plates on a '02+ car and compare to a 99-01 car to see if the plates would would (in theory) fit.
Gert,
That's fantastic news, as I'd like to go with a Porsche suspension for my D.E. driven '99 C2. Why don't you list the X74 as an option for the early 996's on your website?
P.S. I just checked your website and see that it is listed with no model year exclusions. Am I imagining things, or did your page for the X74 previously state it was for '02 and forward cars?
