Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
Just picked up my first 996...and am very excited. (99 C2 in Vesuvio metalic) I'm just 26 years old, so the jump into this foray took some *****, but I've been saving and saving.
That said, I bought the best car a 26 year old could afford, and its' got some shortcomings. Two points of contention I'm attempting to address are:
1) The radio (CR-210) works fine, but is missing the numeric buttons (1-8 or 10) used to select presets, etc). I can operate them by sticking a pen into the slot where the buttons should be, but would really like to get some in there. Does anyone know where I might purchase a set, or better yet, does anyone have any older ones laying around? I don't care how worn out they look.
2) Factory alarm and infrared locking mechanism fused out. No light on dash indicating alarm active, and cannot utilize the power lock/unlock button from the button on the key. Does anyone know which fuse this is, or know where I might find a schematic?
I appreciate any advice...
Glad to be a member of this new world!
Thanks

Congratulations on your car!
Make sure your remote is programmed to your car. The alarm and buttons won't activate if the key head is dead. I'd take it to the local Porsche dealer and ask them to check. They can also either program or replace the head if necessary. Good luck.
On the radio buttons, this thread mentions a place to get replacement *****...if they have the ***** maybe they have the buttons?

jlb532 - welcome and congrats on getting the P-car! What did the previous owner do to lose the radio buttons? Did he install an aftermarket unit and then re-install the stock unit prior to selling? Maybe that's how the buttons got lost? Just curious!
BTW, we need pics of your car... soon!
Gota911...previous owner said he was "going to swap it out" for an upgrade, but never got around to it. Buttons are nowhere to be found.
Been trying to post pics...though (embarrased to say) I can't seem to figure it out. Is there a good explanation anywhere? I've tried the "search"...

Welcome!
I'm sure you've noticed by now, but the factory audio solutions are pretty terrible. Rather than going insane trying to find the buttons for your CR210, it might make more sense to invest in a nice aftermarket CD head unit that will not only have all the goodies like mp3, etc. but also will sound a bit better.
