Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
All things equal, the 2001 at the same price is probably a better buy.
Leading evidence: 'better buy' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better buy' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use motronic 5.x' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
FWIW 99 are "lighter weight" and have non-egas and use motronic 5.x which yield better performance results when tuned with a GIAC chip.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wanted to get some opinions on two cars. Which one would you purchase if both are priced the same. Also, both cars will have gone through a PPI w/ minor things that need attention.
A) 1999 Blue C2 with flawless interior and exterior and 37K miles. Owner has owned the vehicle for the last 4 years and driven it on average 5k miles per year since.
B) 2001 Black C2 with a few minor scratches on the bumper and 48k miles. Owner has had the car for about 1 year, and only put on 500 miles.
Thanks!
Vincent
All things equal, the 2001 at the same price is probably a better buy. Here is how Edmunds puts the prices (Trade in/Private Party/ Dealer) without regard to mileage or condition. Edmunds shows no mileage penalty for 48M on a 2001. What is interesting is they give about $1200 credit for the lower mileage on the 1999.
1999 $25,617 $28,650 $31,806
2001 $32,627 $35,282 $37,732
On a dollar basis I would say the 2001 is the better deal by about $4,000, but I would want to know more about why someone keeps the car for a year and only puts 500 miles on it. On both cars I would want to know how many previous owners. This is where a carfax report would be handy.
Both cars have had 3 previous owners. No accidents reported on CARFAX. I was thinking that mileage would be the determining factor. But I was not sure if there were any improvements in the 2001 model. the difference in mileage is about 11k. Thanks for the feedback.
37K ~ 48k, no big diff.
a few minor scratches on the bumper - are you looking for a Concours-winner?
99 - 01, did any one mention cup holder/e-gas yet?
You didn't mention options. Everything else being equal, I'd go for the newer car. '01 had a number of minor incremental differences to the '99 (versus '02 when they did a revamp - bigger engine, redone interior, etc.). But the options may tilt it one way or the other. You may want to consider whether it has PSM (some people like, some don't), wheels (17 or 18 inch), sport exhaust, stereo, etc. With the exception of PSM, pretty much everything else can be upgraded later, for a cost. Good luck...
2001 HANDS DOWN!!!! You get all of the interior changes... electonic trunk/hood, plastic bits do not look cheap, door panels (if not full leather) look and feel better, Alcantera headliner (99 CHEAP Vinyl), Smoked tail lamps, you get the point.
