Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
If your CAI should fail, the standard procedure for getting to a repair facility is to tell your spouse that they don't look as fat in that outfit as they did in the other one.
Leading evidence: 'Repair facility is' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair facility is' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Engines run better on air that's cold because they don't like the taste.

Buy it for the sound and nothing else and if you do, make sure you tighten those clamps.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Not for $225.00! LOL It's nothing more then the same old Fabspeed, Schnell or China knock off's you can buy on ebay for $100. give or take. And it does not add any HP - at least that I can detect. And they are full of s**t on the 20% increase in airflow. You can't get more through the pipe if the upstream system has not been changed! The throttle is a hair sharper and the sound at WFO is a lot better is about all you get. Buy it for the sound and nothing else and if you do, make sure you tighten those clamps. You'll get a misfire because you have an airleak affecting the MAF. Don't ask me how I know that.
FYI: These guys seem to want their pound of flesh on Porsche stuff huh? Not one part cheaper here then other places - most higher in price for the same part.
I have the EVOMs CAI. The sound difference is particular to WOT, where it's just great. The rest of the time, it's pretty much undetectable.
I personally don't think all CAI horsepower claims are BS. I think that well designed ones do liberate some power, since the factory unit is very compromised in order to meet European drive-by noise regulations.
However
: First, the added power is likely to occur at the peak, where the engine is pumping the most air. Few of us spend much time there. And second, you have to add a
lot
of horsepower to any car before anybody can "detect" it, as Torontoworker put it, regardless of how you add it. Your butt dyno is pretty good at detecting torque, but not horsepower gains of this magnitude. Torque is the shove in your back; horsepower is "hey, I'm doing 100 mph and it's still accelerating!", and given horsepower cubes with speed, a few more is nearly academic in this car.
I enjoy mine, especially combined with the other mods I've done. The car feels and sounds unique and more raw, which is the experience I'm looking for. Not being much of a bench racer, the numbers aren't very relevant for me.
CAI does that =Cold Air Intake ?
How do they refrigerate the air? Is it hooked up to the air conditioner? I would think that would cause a loss in power, well not really a loss but more accessory parasitic drag making the engine work harder.
Most Cold Air Intakes are solar powered, so there is no parasitic drag on the engine. Temperatures are carefully controlled so that the engine can "see its breath", but not so that actual ice cubes are ingested by the manifold. Engines run better on air that's cold because they don't like the taste. It's a well known fact in car circles that the power benefit of cold air is the sole reason that Santa lives at the North Pole, and the only way he could get to every house in the world in one night.
If your CAI should fail, the standard procedure for getting to a repair facility is to tell your spouse that they don't look as fat in that outfit as they did in the other one. This will produce enough cold air to last 100 miles or so. The technique is explained more fully in your manual.
I get that nothing short of putting a turbo on will help a n/a C2, what I'm trying to do is get a 'manlier' exhaust note without dropping the coin on an exhaust system....
Actually, no. There's an argument to be made that the improvement of an aftermarket CAI is minimal, but it isn't zero. Porsche's intakes have for some years been limited by noise regulations in certain European markets. The stock intake is NOT what they would have designed if power was their sole concern.
Look at this one...it does give a throatier sound at WOT.

I have one and can say that during a past DE a fellow driver had the same year car as mine and the same motor, in the straight I would pull away from him. He asked me afterward what I had done to my motor. Told him I had fabspeed cans and the CAI. Huge power gain....no......sound good...yep.
I love the claims that a $90 part will increase your horsepower. Porsche is such a stupid engineering company that they didn't think of that themselves!
CAI--why they call it that is beyond me. Cold air is the air that comes from outside the engine compartment--and the 996 and 997 engines already have that design from the factory.
The only thing I wish was that it was ME who came up with this silly idea and profit from other people's lack of understanding of things mechanical.
Never ceases to amaze me how the most uninformed are usually the most strident. You can't seriously believe that there is one definitive "best" or that a car company doesn't have to live with compromises that the aftermarket doesn't. You are fully entitled to your opinion, but you aren't entitled to suggest that those of us who disagree are idiots.
I've got the K&N 57i kit with heat shielding and whatnot. Didn't expect any increase in power, but it does sound more angry at WOT. It also gives a nice "whoosh"-sound when you blip the throttle, kinda like when Darth Vader draws his breath.
Conclusion: I'm happy.
Sidenote: I perceive K&N to be a serious bunch, that take pride in their filters. A dyno-sheet was included in the box and it showed a bhp-increase of, wait for it, 23(!!). That's just nuts.
