Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I probably won't be up to snuff, since I have to learn the new track, plus learn the driving character of the newly installed X73 and break in the MPSC's.
Leading evidence: 'Install x73 and break in the mpsc's' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'way' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install x73 and break in the mpsc's' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
If you're going to have to drive the car in Boston winters the C4S is probably the way to go.

Suggestion
I mean, until I got into the white run group, I was using a Targa for DEs, and a blinged out Targa at that!

Suggestion
On the street, the C4S is planted, like it's running on rails.

Suggestion
Surprisingly though, I have to give fewer and fewer as I learn to stop using my brakes.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

but the C4S is heavier (which is not good for track use and much of the weight is the worst type of weight -- unsprung), and has AWD (which is not necessary for track use and arguably not necessary for street use unless you frequently face "severe" weather conditions).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's a 6 speed in the 2002 cars; both can be had with tiptronics. The C2 is lighter and comes closest to the original 911 in driving feel. I personally like the lighter weight and simple look of the C2 narrowbody.
The C4S is a gorgeous car, has turbo brakes and I think a lower ride height than the C2. If you're going to have to drive the car in Boston winters the C4S is probably the way to go.
I pretty much agree with Snaproll, except that a C2 is fine in the snow provided you use winter tires. Also, having tracked my C2 extensively, I do not think the turbo brakes are necessary at all. Keep in mind that the C2 and the C4S have exactly the same engine . . . but the C4S is heavier (which is not good for track use and much of the weight is the worst type of weight -- unsprung), and has AWD (which is not necessary for track use and arguably not necessary for street use unless you frequently face "severe" weather conditions).
The C4S is the most beautiful 996 in my opinion, even better than the turbo. But I do think it is "unnecessary" for most people, and a liability for some (e.g., track junkies). If you are using it strictly for the street, you will never notice the criticisms of the C4S that I have listed here.
Heh-heh
. TD, it has been a while since we had discussions/friendly arguments about the C4S prowess at the track. I think you still owe me a drink from the last one
.
On the street, the C4S is planted, like it's running on rails. On the track, it's the same thing, planted, running on rails. Until you start pushing the envelope. Driven properly, it is easier to rotate the C2 by having the tail come around. Driven properly, it is easier to rotate the C4S by having the tail come around
AND
by the front wheels pulling the front around via AWD.
Advantages of the stock C4S over the stock C2 at the track: Sport suspension, bigger brakes, wider track, bigger tires, AWD. Proven by none other than Walter at the "ring by posting faster times. And an added bonus: it looks absolutely gorgeous ( I may just be a little biased
).
Palting, I knew this discussion would degenerate
I will give you that the C4S is more beautiful than the C2. I will also give you an advantage in wet weather. At all other times, give me a C2
Fortunately, you can't go too wrong with either choice
BTW, I am heading out to mid-ohio at the beginning of may to try out that beautiful new pavement with PCA Potomac. Will you be around? That could be a good time for a beer. Unfortuantely, I will be bringing the '44 rather than the C2 so we cannot have a showdown. If I can keep up with you in the '44, you will need to borrow Riad's purse!
Yup, we had fun. Don't know about that '44, though. You know the saying, it not the car, it's the driver. I understand you are a full fledged racer now
. I think I can find an out fit that will match Riad's purse.
I'll be at M-O this weekend with OVR. I probably won't be up to snuff, since I have to learn the new track, plus learn the driving character of the newly installed X73 and break in the MPSC's. May is Watkins Glen time for me, with the Allegheny boys and gals.
No prob, Dell. I've been relatively quiet lately. Kinda got off the radar.
Back on topic. In terms of cost, remember that the C4S comes standard with items that are optional on the C2. Like the sports suspension, full leather, 18" wheels, upgrade brakes. Aside from the higher demand, those will also drive the selling price up. It's up to the buyer if the higher cost is worth it.
Trying to get up to the glen in May myself. If it's a track only car you want get a GT3. Mine functions great as a DD, track toy. I've never seemed to suffer any of these liabilities that all the experts are yapping about
I know a C4S is just such an embarassing POS, unworthy of even going to the track, oh well.
The only liability at the track is waiting for a passing signal from some of you guys
Of course, there is nothing whatsoever wrong with using a C4S as a dual purpose car. The limits of the car will be higher than the limits of most, if not all, of the drivers on this forum. I mean, until I got into the white run group, I was using a Targa for DEs, and a blinged out Targa at that!
Nonetheless, if someone is asking, then we need to be honest about the real downsides to the many upsides of the C4s
Every car has them . . .
You can't be talking about ME with this one.
Since getting the '44, I have become, out of necessity, very proficient at giving point bys. Surprisingly though, I have to give fewer and fewer as I learn to stop using my brakes.
Just wait until I end my self-imposed exile in the low-HP gutter and drive a high HP car exactly the same way I am learning to momentum drive the '44 . . . then YOU will have to exercise those point-by manuevers yourself
Right now I am working on increasing my corner entry speed and left-foot braking
I live in Chicago and my C2 is my daily driver. It works great in the winter (with snow tires)!!
If I were you, I'd make decision based on driving dynamics rather than on foul weather capability. The C4 or C4S will obviously be superior in nasty weather, but the C2 works very well (the rear weight bias really helps here) when the weather is bad.
Everyone here has there own preferences and opinions (which can usually be discovered with a quick glance at the "signature") but keep this in mind Porsche didn't make any sloppy handling 996's.
In my opinion there is a reason that Porsche only offers the GT2/GT3 in RWD, but you really should decide for yourself (sorry, I couldn't resist
).
Seriously, drive them both and decide!! Whatever you chose you can't go wrong.
Perhaps, but I got $500 that says I can get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park faster than you sissy track rats.
If you don't have cab drivers and pedestrians, where's the sport??
