Ok here goes, Steering wheel position first, When itest drove it for 2 hours I never really bothered too much about seeing the top of the dials as it really isn't a reason to not buy a car and since have realised that the column comes straight out making it better, Just over 3k miles in the last 3 years as the guy who owned it was 60 years old with arthritis and only used it very occasionally when the sun was out.Brake lines changed because they are 14 years old and needed changed.Exhaust was 2 new back boxes as they were leaking.

Suggestion
The idea is you can adjust your ride position up and down with the seat and thus preserve the correct angle (you should be able to view the instruments thru the wheel.)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Today I picked up my 1999 Carrera 4 convertible. Drove her home 300 miles and was pretty much perfect. The only thing I dislike is the steering wheel adjustment which doesn't go up or down and as im tall means I cant see the top of the dials. A few interior rattles which im going to look at today and 3 small stone chips is really all I can find wrong. It has 68k on it with full dealer history having 9 stamps. Just had New rear exhaust, New tyres, Couple of new arms and all the brake pipes replaced for its mot. Going to get the engine oil changed along with the gearbox and front diff. The car has only done 3k since last oil change but that was almost 3 years ago.

Congrats on the new ride! The steering wheel not going up and down is a bit odd, keeping in mind it does telescope however. The idea is you can adjust your ride position up and down with the seat and thus preserve the correct angle (you should be able to view the instruments thru the wheel.)
That said, a '99 C4? Thats gotta be a rare bird.
Something stinks here. How come you complain now about the steering position. Did you suddenly sprout up a few inches in height since driving the car before you bought it? 3000 miles in the last 3 years, why? All brake lines changed, why? You say new REAR exhaust why? Are not all 911 exhaust at the rear? What a couple of new arms, actually means, beats me. As nice as the car appears I think I would want to know these things. Has it been rear ended and off the road recently? A FEW interior rattles. It should have no rattles not even one. Has it been garaged. Been bottomed out? IT rains a lot in the UK I know but not enough to rot out an exhaust on a 911. Anyway seeing as how you don't seem to be asking questions maybe you could answer a few of mine. Thanks.

Rattles, I have owned loads of cars and all had some kind of rattle and on this car there was a rattle/squeak from the hood which was two guides rubbing and a door rattle which was a loose nut.Was garaged most of the time but not always. Not rear ended, Why would it have been and bottomed out?? Hope this helps make you feel better about my purchase! Thanks
First let me say thanks to you for not ignoring me as some chap from Canada suggested you should. Thanks for a complete and clear explanation as to my questions. Sounds like you got a nice car so congratulations from me to you are in order. Hope all go very well for you.
I think the combination of the tyres being in front of the silencers, the heat together with the water and salt being thrown on then hastens their demise. My uk 2003 996 c4s had rusted silencers all along the seam facing the rear wheel. The rest of the silcencer was fine, seemed a waste of money to replace so I took mine off and had the seam cut out and a fabricator make (shape and cut a new seam) and weld it in. They were a metal frame manufacturer not a garage, they did an amazing job and only charged me 200 gbp! :-)
Hi guys,
Just a little update after 6 weeks of ownership. I solved all my rates eventually mostly with a little krytox on touching parts. Had my oil changed with Fuchs titan race pro 5W-40. Fixed passenger seat issue. Full valet and waxed every week. I have put 1500 miles on her which was more than the last year and she hasn't missed a beat, Meant to be weekend car but cant help myself. Going to do the spoiler button in dash upgrade as soon as it arrives. Coilovers within next few months as I feel the suspension although working ok is 14 years old. New bigger tailpipes soon. Maybe some sideskirts aswell. One thing im not sure about is that I have jumped in and bought a double din touchscreen unit, Its not Pioneer or anything like that but still cost decent money, I have no problem shifting the climate unit and have all the facias required to do the job but im not too sure how easy the stereo wiring is going to be. I have searched lots and some of it is baffling me. How hard is this? Anyway thanks guys and im away for a drive. Very Happy
